View Full Version : "Air Rage" on an A380?

Just a question for you experts about Air Rage. What I'm wondering about is the dynamics of people in large groups and whether Airbus has considered it in their design and operating procedures?

500+ people in one aircraft I just wonder if "crowd control" might become an issue?

"The emotional stimulation and sense of protection while being a crowd and unleash impulsive behaviour usually restrained by individuals such as rage and aggression. The emotional excitement of being in a crowd is a key element in the formation of civil disobedience behaviour. At the same time the crowd provides people with a sense of unity, excitement, and justification for criminal behaviour."

I guess its bad enough with one football team on an aircraft, but what if there are two or three acting up? Is maybe the A380 too big?

well apparently its gonna have a casino, movie theatre, club etc on it, maybe they could fit some holding cells as well...

Flying bouncers will be on board recognizable by big shoulders, Eastern European appearance, battered knuckles and wings on their chest depicting a badge with crossed boxing gloves as a motif. Offenders will be tipped down a chute that leads to a holding cell situated in one of the cargo compartments - pressurised of course but where the temperature is dropped to 10C to cool them off.

Exactly the same way air rage is handled on a 744, I suspect, or any other aircraft.

Are you proposing some kind of "tipping point" for mob rage? Look outside a chip shop after pub closing, you need a lot less than 555...

Sunfish,

JAL operates 744D's with 545 pax now, has done for some time...the sky will not fall down with the introduction of the A380.

That's why they split the pax up into two even groups. One on the bottom deck and one on the top. The only problem then is working out how to stop the bottom dwellers ringing the top notchers to say "food fight!".

Fire and smoke up the front - leading to that well-known phenomenon of "backrush"......

Hope the C of G range can handle that "let's all move to the back of the bus" eventuality.

Is there going to be "always augmented" technical flight-crews or will the Japanese short-haul version still be limited to two yobbos up the front and the rest of the crew as "far-fetch and carriers"?

Easy peasy, take the cabin up to say 25,000 and leave it there until they all quieten down.

Now all we have to do is work out how to stop the cabin masks from deploying. :E

Or could always ask any rumbustious pax to step outside to settle their differences.:ok:
Oh and BTW, watch that last step.......

you've looked death in the face.

Flight attendant in riot gear. Tear gas in the air conditioning, water cannons and battons...

Police brutality, rape, murder, pillage, crime scenes, booze bus... :hmm:

Gaunty says (in reply to the Unctous "backrush" proposition)

"Easy peasy, take the cabin up to say 25,000 and leave it there until they all quieten down"

That solution makes no sense as the flight-crew will be by that time on an emerg descent to circa 10 to 12,000ft. It's easy to discard real prospects of panic becoming the driving force - but it happens.....like it or not.

Backrush by panic-stricken pax faced with smoke, fumes and fire would not be an easy thing to halt. Ask any fireman who's had to move through a burn-out night-club or disco. All the bodies are stacked up around the exits furthest from the base of the fire.

what about the americans (ar$eholes) saying that groups of people usually 2-3 aren't allowed to group together cos they deem it to be a terrorist threat? now with 500 people onboard at the movies or at the bar isn't this "The Gangs of New York"?

the japanese on a whole are a pretty orderly bunch of people! i couldnt imagine any of them inciting roudy behaviour!

We could start a calcutta here - $10.00 each in for the PPRuNer who can predict the highest number of Japanese passengers bounced off the roof lining after ignoring the seat belt while seated warning on a single flight over a 12 month period.

Could be a good little earner that!!!!:}

Best all
