View Full Version : AUS ATC job options?

I'm trying to find out some info for my wife, who recently tried to get onto the latest course for trainee air traffic controllers.
During the assessment, she failed the very first maths test by a couple of marks, but passed all the others by a very large margin, a couple at 100%.
Although dissapointed with not actually getting in, she was encouraged by the fact that she did well in the majority of the test, and is planning on applying again in 12 months (hopefully they will still be taking people on).
Here's my question -
Assuming she can apply again in 12 months time, between now and then she would like to get some relevant work experience. She is thinking of trying to get something in the ATC field that doesn't necessarily need specialised ATC training - maybe something like flightwatch. She has done some research on the net but can't find any information on anything like this. Can anyone suggest where to find this information, maybe even someone to talk to? Or possibly other avenues of employment along the same line?

We would be grateful for any help!

Cheers,

Pete.

Ring Airservices Canberra number, 1300 301 120 and ask to speak to the Manager (Ian Harding, I believe) of AUSFIC (Briefing, NOTAMs, Flightwatch and AFTN all rolled into one).
AUSFIC is based in Brisbane. I believe they did some internal advertising recently, so they may not need any external applicants, but it's worth a phone call to find out.
I see on the AsA website they are after applicants to start training for ATC in 2006.
