View Full Version : Who here is in the aviation industry? CRR 30th Jan 2005, 14:52 I'm new around here and was wondering who actually works in aviation. Me, I'm not. I just love watching airplanes. Thanks. The Greaser 30th Jan 2005, 15:12 I do ...................................................... Jerricho 30th Jan 2005, 15:13 Last time I checked I did. Onan the Clumsy 30th Jan 2005, 15:24 To be pedantic, the question wasWho here is in the aviation industry? So "I do" and "I did" are not really correct answers. :8 I was, but on the IT side before my job was stolen from me. I am still in the IT industry :ugh: I still like aeroplanes though. FunkyMunky 30th Jan 2005, 15:31 I'm trying and not getting very far :p Jerricho 30th Jan 2005, 15:33 And a good morning Mr Pedantic the Clumsy. Vlad the Impaler 30th Jan 2005, 16:06 You can count me "IN" some would say that my contribution is not always welcome or indeed of any use but I persist. The Greaser 30th Jan 2005, 16:13 The question in the opening post asks who works in aviation. So I respectfully suggest the answers were correct. redsnail 30th Jan 2005, 16:56 I do. Got a good job :E one ball 30th Jan 2005, 17:09 How about "Who here DOESN'T work in aviation......" ... but feels qualified and entitled to expound on their aviation-related opinions and moan about huge watches. amelia jane 30th Jan 2005, 17:11 As of March 7th, I am!!! flugholm 30th Jan 2005, 17:20 According to yesterday's pay slip, I am. Dolphins 30th Jan 2005, 17:34 Merely an enthusiastic PPL; passed up the chance to go whole hog CPL/IR ATPL when I saw the starting salaries. Glad to say thats working out well for me - especially when I meet guys whom I PPL'd with who are now on the first rung of the commercial ladder, that opinion gets re-enforced as being the correct one. Am I still allowed to venture an opinion on big watches though? Dolphins Tempsford 30th Jan 2005, 18:08 The question was 'who actually works in aviation?'....hmmm..now that is a very good question. Temps Standard Noise 30th Jan 2005, 18:16 I, as many other ATCO's are, am employed in aviation. As for the 'working' bit, well that's another story......;) Tempsford 30th Jan 2005, 18:23 Anyone got the answer to 33 across? ComJam 30th Jan 2005, 18:24 I am. Glad to see Reddo in a good job at last :D Jerricho 30th Jan 2005, 18:39 Sssshhhhhh Standard. Don't tell them that. con-pilot 30th Jan 2005, 20:31 Count me in, been in Avaition for 35 years, maybe I'll get an honest job someday. Solid Rust Twotter 30th Jan 2005, 20:42 Con-pilot Amen, brother!:ok: You and me both. I just want a job where I'm not shot at - Airlines would be nice... TimS 30th Jan 2005, 20:58 Being shot at is character forming !! con-pilot 30th Jan 2005, 21:09 Ah well SRT just remember that when one is shot at it is not necessarily always a projectile that one is shot at with.:E redsnail 30th Jan 2005, 21:30 Yeah CJ, Plash one brudda, it godda APU. :D Lon More 30th Jan 2005, 22:00 For just over 24 hours I still am. Official retirement date Feb. 1st. Lon More, here since before Pontius was a Pilot or Mortus a Rigger 1DC 30th Jan 2005, 22:17 No, not working in the industry, just paying money quite regularly to use the facilities.. Would quite liked a job 'though till I found out I couldn't work a big watch. Skylark4 30th Jan 2005, 22:26 I do, except that I am off, sick, at the moment. Groundcrew but a ppl. Mike W TimS 30th Jan 2005, 22:41 Happy retirement Lon More- will you miss it ? lexxity 30th Jan 2005, 22:49 Hands up, on the ground, but definitely an airline (at least I think thats what the management are playing at). :} sprocket 30th Jan 2005, 23:42 Yep, 30 years (but not flying) and still managing to hang on tightly. AntiCrash 31st Jan 2005, 01:10 Thirty two years and still wondering if I'll be found out and have to get a real job. AerBabe 31st Jan 2005, 09:31 I get paid as full-time, permanent airfield staff... but I wouldn't call it 'work'. :ok: phoenix son 31st Jan 2005, 11:20 Yep, 15 years on the ground, a few wrong turns aside I seem to finally be moving the right way on the career ladder... PHX timmcat 31st Jan 2005, 11:53 Nope, I'm one of those that probably should'nt be in here.. They don't seem to mind though! :O Jelly Baby Freak 31st Jan 2005, 11:59 Count me in as a yes! Since 1981 - (1979 if you count the RAF) -should get a real job one day, then I think why the  with alacrity 31st Jan 2005, 12:24 I have been employed in ATC for 34 years with the last 28 of them at my present unit. And guess what? I still love it. I can also retire in five years on a full pension if I feel like it. :ok: AirYard 31st Jan 2005, 13:22 Yup, that would be me in!.... Still having fun aswell:D:E Spuds McKenzie 31st Jan 2005, 13:25 18 years in ATC, best job there is. :ok: eal401 31st Jan 2005, 13:31 Yup, I am in aviation too. Still looking for a proper job. :p Paterbrat 31st Jan 2005, 14:56 42 years and out as of last year, managing to avoid gear ups and or any wrinkled aluminium/fabric, for which I give thanks and am truly gratefull.:ok: one ball 31st Jan 2005, 15:15 Interesting how many non-aviators knock pilots in general, then stick their hands up for inclusion in the aviation industry. Ironic. EG ATC, catering, ops, crewing, maintenance, etc........ "Yep, I'm working in aviation!!!!! Bloody pilots... " "Aviation" Industry. Let's not forget it. Lukeafb1 31st Jan 2005, 15:34 Yup! Since 1959. Cor, that makes me ....er.........OLD!:uhoh: Jerricho 31st Jan 2005, 15:36 Interesting point of view there, my mono-testicled matey. I take it you don't view Air Traffic Control as being part of the aviation industry then. Not sure of how many people, including me, would agree with that. Why don't you head over to the ATC forum and mention that. Ace Rimmer 31st Jan 2005, 15:42 Well I do earn a crust writing about things wot fly, the folks wot fly them and the companies wot own them but I dunno if that makes me part of the industry though. Standard Noise 31st Jan 2005, 16:01 No Jerricho don't send him over our way yet, I haven't got the Bren gun set up! Jerricho 31st Jan 2005, 16:03 We could always just set the real Bren on him. I'm sure HD would love that one. ;) sixmilehighclub 31st Jan 2005, 16:52 Was in aviation, went to get a proper job, got one, kept changing it slightly until my proper job was actually in aviation (yes such jobs do exist!). Now knee deep in aviation yet again. Every time I've tried to leave the industry it drags me back kicking and screaming! - no not that sort of screaming sorry guys Spuds McKenzie 31st Jan 2005, 17:04 one ball (sic!) must be one of those white gloved Nigels who reckon they don't need any of the supporting industries to execute their glorious task... :yuk: http://www.cartoonstock.com/lowres/abr0724l.jpg MikeKnight 31st Jan 2005, 17:45 Who here is in the aviation industry? I can't be in the aviation industry for I am in the living room right now. Jerricho 31st Jan 2005, 17:55 With Professor Plum and the dagger? Lon More 31st Jan 2005, 17:59 TimS I actually stopped working last year (many will say long before that) I was in ATC since 1967. Yes, there were many good times, lots of good people. A few bad times, lost a few good flying mates, and things like Recklinghausen have of course changed the job for ever. Unfortunately the present management culture leaves little room for the individual. On balance I miss the people, but not what the job has become. Plenty of time now to mow the lawn!! Jerry Coe 31st Jan 2005, 19:15 Many years in the 'aviation industry' (back when Heathrow was still called London Airport); now elsewhere in the transportation business. Haven't yet decided what I want to do when I grow up. JC airship 31st Jan 2005, 19:16 In the 1940s, 20 hours of flying lessons would have been enough to get you into the cockpit of a Spitfire. In the early 21st Century, about the same number of hours would have been sufficient to ensure a place in aviation history (WTC). OK, I realise that the Hun were responsible back in the '40s but what about more recently...? :uhoh: |
