...and while we civvies are showing our ignorance (but interest too), what's a Blunty? From BEagle's contributions I get the sense of "Admin", non-flying?

Worked out what Stovies and Crabs are. Ta!

A blunty is someone not employed at the 'sharp' end. A 'shiney' is an adminner, as they sit on their ass all day and the rear of their trousers becomes shiney.

& a REMF is a Rear echelon mother F%^&*( who is also a JAFFA (Just another fat F$£"ing administrator who resides in "Handbrake House" because the only word they know when speaking to aircrew is "No". Due to there office arrangements, they also tend to be "Shiney ar5es"

In any case they are all PONTI`s which is a Person of No Tactical Importance.

Junglies got their nickname in Borneo in the early 60s. Confirmation here (http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/static/pages/7607.html)

For a guide to terms you can do a lot worse than this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0951430521/ref=ase_royalnavysubm-21/202-0242633-2382261

(Stuff sincerely hope links to shops are allowed.....)

It has almost every term in it and makes a great read to pass away the hours :D

Junglies are so called because the first real operational use of the assault helicopters (by the UK) was in the jungles of Borneo, Malaya etc, where it was the only means to get the grunts into theatre.

Now if someone asks why pingers are so called, then I am going call the police (Church Police? :uhoh: )
