Hi,

I’m looking for some conformation on how to complete a Modular frozen ATPL.
My question is, can I do the ATPL course and exams in the UK, and the rest of my flight training modules, Multi IR etc between different JAR state schools?

Example,

Class 1 Medical - Complete in Ireland.
PPL - Complete in Ireland.
ATPL Exams - Complete in UK.
IR - Complete in Ireland.
Multi Engine - Complete in Florida.

I’m told by the IAA that I have to complete all my training in one member JAR state?

If anyone can help me complete a road map I’d appreciate it.
I’m currently awaiting my PPL flight test.

Thanks to all.

Cheers
Tinmouse.

"I’m told by the IAA that I have to complete all my training in one member JAR state?"

I'm not sure that's correct.....I think you can do your hour-building anywhere ICAO, and then even say, do the CPL in the US (as long as they are a registered JAA school)....

I think you can do the IR in any JAA member state, but will add that the impression I pick up from friends who have got jobs recently is that its best you do it here.

I hope this helps and no doubt you will have quite a bit of extra advice soon. Good luck on your forthcoming flight test :)

JAA provisions that authorities can spread the training around but you have to arrange it with them in advance, and not many will allow you.

CAA LASORS:

An applicant shall demonstrate the
satisfactory completion of all
requirements for licence issue to the
Authority of the ‘State of licence
issue*.
Further ratings may be obtained
under JAR-FCL requirements in any
JAA Member State and will be
entered into the licence by the State
of licence issue. For administrative
convenience, e.g. revalidation, the
licence holder may subsequently
transfer a licence issued by the
State of licence issue to another
JAA Member State provided that
employment or normal residency is
established in that State. That State
would thereafter become the State of
licence issue and would assume the
responsibility for licence issue. An
applicant shall hold only one
JAR-FCL licence for each category
of aircraft and only one medical
certificate at any time.
Training/Testing in other JAA
Member States
*In circumstances agreed by both
Authorities, an applicant who has
commenced training under the
responsibility of one Authority may
be permitted to complete the
requirements under the
responsibility of the other Authority.
The agreement shall allow for:
1 theoretical knowledge training
and examinations (except PPL
examinations)
2 medical examination and
assessment
3 flight training and testing
The Authorities shall agree the
‘State of licence issue’.
Prior to commencement of training
applicants should contact the
intended ‘State of licence issue’ to
confirm that such an agreement is
acceptable to both Authorities.

I have been in contact with the IAA regarding the same thing as I don't want distance learning ground school but a full time class room course.

Their reply was that because at this moment in time full time classroom courses are not offered in Ireland, they will recognise the ATPL theory done in the UK as long as you can prove that it was done full time residential.

As far as I know, hour building can be done anywhere ICAO. In case of you wanting an Irish license, the CPL would have to be done in Ireland, as they will recognise the ATPL theory as long as it was done full time.

I'm planning to go about it a different way:

PPL & night rating - Ireland
ATPL ground school - UK
CPL - UK
ME-IR - Ireland
MCC - Ireland

This is acceptable as it will lead to issue of a UK license. ME-IR are classed as ratings and as such can be done in any JAA member state. Training done in the same state only applies for those bits that are necessary for license issue (i.e. ATPL theory and CPL) with the exception mentioned above.

Hope this helps, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
