How's it working from the perspective of individual services - good/bad/indifferent/no change from before ?

Is everyone equal, or are some more equal than others.

Before you read this post dont read too much into it. Its not meant to offend.

The Army are good at being soldiers and crap at doing aviation.

The RAF are good at doing aviation and crap at being soldiers.

Stroke of genius, put the army in charge of all military rotary SH assets.

Enough said.

Jungly,

Trouble with putting SH assets under direct control of the Army is that, apart from the "hairy arm corpse", the men in green have no real idea as to the capability and needs of said assets:rolleyes:

A typical example of that, for those unfortunate enough to have endured Red 850, is how Lynx 5 and the Puma crew would re hash, and save valuable hours almost on a daily basis, the flying prog that buzzard and his team had spent all night putting together.

You are quite correct that SH are a delivery service but if the guys in green just tell them what they want moving and where to move it to they will give you, IMHO, the best solution :ok:

"But the Navy are best at both"........possibly but as you need one aircraft to do the job and one to carry the film crew you are certainly not the most cost effective:E

ABIW,

Good point, but there should be a BALO in there to sort that out, and not just a 1st tourist who is still separating his/her posterior from his mid-arm joint.

I thought the purpose of the Jolly Happy Club was to 'spread the love', ensuring that experts were in the right place to give that advice.

I hope that given time and the fact that the personnel populating the HQ are working ever more closely at the NCO/Lt/Lt Cdr level before getting there, will foster the 'can-do' and open attitude which makes the SH community what it is. (stand fast those caught lying about performance figures to get out of Iraq early)

Here is 1 example of how the army operate (not a dig just an observation) In NI there is a callout because of something happening on a hill. Its night, top of said hill in cloud, nothing for us to do apart from the ARF to be dropped off. Army answer launch the fleet!!! Get the puma in the air, get a gazelle here.

Puma capt. "Why do you need the puma in the air?"
Lynx 5 "just in case"
P "in case of what, are 30 people at night in the dark running round a hillside not enough?"
L "Yes but we need all the aircraft in the air"
P "to do what, there a 3 aircraft on gogg's buzzing round a hilltop that in cloud!!!!"
L "just in case"
P "in case of what though?"
L "I dont know, anything could happen"
P "yeeesss, ill tell you what we will be downstairs sipping tea"

3 brews and 2 episodes of the simpsons later,

"can you go to XXXXXXX and get a couple of dogs?"

What im getting at is the army (not everybody) are soldiers first and pilots second, the "big picture" is lost sometimes.

The RAF/navy/army are not better or worse, just different.
