Does anyone know if there are Training Providers in Oz that offer a Multi Crew Course? I understand that most 'airlines' would include this when you are first employed but are there courses available to prospective RPT pilots?

Also has anyone found a MCC to be of benefit when applying for RPT jobs?

Please let this topic die the death that it deserves.

The last thing this country needs is another money making exersise for the flying schools to use against the bewildered prospective student who thinks they have to do everything FOR the airline so they can get that elusive job.

Lets not follow Europes lead. How does another 10,000 AUD, on top of what they have already spent on the licence, sound to everyone? Just for a few hours in a static synthetic trainer and another few hours telling you all about human factors etc. It's a useless load of rubbish and only supplies you with a small insight into what really happens on the line. Let the airlines do it as they do it best and have done it for years.

Now that I've said that I hope that nobody replies and this little post can quickly drift away into the archives of "search" and hopefully now that this question seems to be becoming more popular people will use that magic function before posting.

Nah, I think I'll answer it... :}

Many airlines in Europe require it before employment. This is because of the numbers getting chopped on their conversion courses, because they arrive at the airline with no idea at all about how to operate as part of a crew. These airlines do not want to spend time in the sim teaching new hires the basics of two-crew ops. They expect them to have that knowledge on arrival.

Now this might not be the case in Oz (yet), but you can expect all the low-cost carriers to start going that way. The same will eventually be true of regionals and, possibly, RPT operators.

So whilst you could argue (and I agree, to an extent) that it is just another way to get exploited by flight training schools, it is also a distinct advantage at hiring time, and, unlike some of the stuff you do on the way to a CPL, the things you learn are actually useful in the real world.

There is a fantastic "multi crew course" conducted by "Liquid Amber and Friends" at the Bar Stool Institute run by a top bloke called Letme Byuabeer.

It is world recognised as the best course for learning multi crew amber recognition.

That involves realising when your other half of multi crew has clear light reflecting through their glass multi crew appreciation wand.

"Billacabella", yes I have found the course to be of the utmost importance and benefit when applying for RPT jobs.

God help me if I ever have to share a "multi crew" lecture room with you.

From November 2005 or when CASR Part 61 becomes effective you will need to have done an MCC Course and pass a multi-crew flight test for the issue of an Australian ATP(A)L.

It has been notified for ages that it is coming. Trouble is there is so much paperwork coming out of CASA who's got the time to read it all, let alone analyse it to see the impacts.

Probably why they get so few responses and then say everyone is in favour of it because there were no adverse comments.
