Gday all,

Been trying to find some info from a while ago, hoping someone reading this might be able to help.

Im trying to track a Garuda Indonesia flight GA976 that operated CGK-SIN-AUH-ZRH-LGW on 02 October 1992.

The sectors between CGK and AUH were operated by GA using GA metal (747), but the a/c went u/s in AUH and the remainder of the flight was operated by Middle East Airlines using one of there 747's.

Im trying to get info on the following:
1) Schedule times for each sector
2) Rego's for both the GA and ME a/c
3) The new flight no. that ME operated as between AUH & LGW.

Thanks in advance!

Bearing in mind that it was 12.5 years ago your chances are odd...
I'm sure such information is still held in Eurocontrol archives (for AUH-ZRH-LGW sectors), but it would be rather difficult to get unless you have a very serious and valid reason...

CargoOne,

Thanks for the info. Just wondering if you have any details on where i could contact Eurocontrol?

Cheers

Might be worthwhile to post this in "the spotters corner"...

As far as I can tell from an excellent website http://members.ams.chello.nl/s.c.verbrugge/707.html#747 plus several old magazines I've looked in MEA have only ever operated six B747.

Three were 100-series in 85, 86 and 93 so can be ruled out.

Three were 200- series:

N202AE - with them by 07/93 - no note of them being seen in 92 with MEA

N203AE - with them by 12/92 - was with Garuda 03/92 but no note of the changeover date. This is a very good candidate

N204AE - with them until 05/92, then back to Garuda and not seen with MEA again until 07/93. Again no note of change over date.

Not a definitive answer but it least may help!

Hey thanks for that info mate!

Thats narrowed down the field quite a bit. Got any idea if there are any Gatwick number crunchers around the place that would have info on this flight, as it was a bit out of the ordinary on the day?

Cheers

Can't be sure I have this right but I will say what I think.

The airport records show that the flight arrived 3/10/92 ( left Jakarta on 2/10/92? ) at Gatwick as GA976, which is the normal flight number, as N202AE. The scheduled arrival time was 1035 Zulu with the actual arrival time being 1215 Zulu.

All other scheduled flights in October 1992 were operated by N203AE which I believe was in a white Garuda colour scheme. I have seen a photo of N202AE taken at Heathrow in December 1992 in full MEA colours so I would suspect that N203AE was operating the service as far as AUH and was replaced by
N202AE to Gatwick.

As this may have been a scheduled or non scheduled aircraft replacement by MEA who owned both aircraft there was no change in the flight numbers. N202AE left Gatwick as GA977 later that afternoon.

Hope this helps
