A couple of little queries, since I've just had Windows re-built.

1) How do I switch off permanently the pesky Office Assistant in Word?

and

2) Can anyone remind me how to switch back on the "beep and squeek"noises that I had when changing on and off Caps Lock?

Thanks for any help.

1 In Word choose Help from the menu, then "Hide the Office Assistant".

2 Contol Panel, Accessibility Options, on the Keyboard tab tick the box against "Use Toggle Keys"

Thanks Ausatco,

2) successfully carried out.

However, I've already carried out the Help command to "Hide the Office Assistant", but the little booger paperclip keeps coming back!

However, I think I've found the solution. Right click on the Assistant, Choose Assistant, Options, untick "Use Office Assistant". Now, hopefully, he's gone!

To remove all traces of those f%^&ing 'assistants' you need to delete the folder that stores them.

Go to the folder under Program Files in which M$ Word is installed.

Under the Word installation folder will be another one called 'Assistants' or 'Characters' or similar. Can't quite remember. If you delete that folder in toto then you'll no longer have those bastard things intrude.

Even better, all the help options eg F1 will default back to standard help functions & windows.
