View Full Version : Oxford Instructor Shortage

African Drunk
5th Jan 2005, 14:33
As I understand it 3 more Oxford IR instructors have left for pastures new. With 7 also having left in the autumn and 9 on "lifestyle contracts" ( part time 300 hours a year ) it seems to me there will not be enough instructors to train the students coming through the system and the delays can only increase.

With the ground school also losing 8 instructors it does look like their are one or two problems in staff relations. With the market as it is their is a shortage of experienced instructors around. I can't see where Oxford are going to recruit new instructors.

As investors in people Oxford will no doubt be keen on paying for their FI(A)s to upgrade to IRI(A)s

Or they could sponsor me

PM me if interested

Anyone know which ground instructors have left Oxford?

Iam going down in 2 weeks for a phase 2 brush up and am wondering if that will be affected in any way.

Cheers, Muppethead :ok:

p.s, hope Mr Steve (Geordie) Tindle is still there!!!:} :}

Steve Tindle, Steve Francis and others are at PGT in Kemble.

RVR800 I believe Oxford have only got two other FI's to upgrade so they might be giving you a call.

Muppethead.
Sorry i can't be at Oxford when you attend but the rumours are true. I'm now down at Pilot Ground Training at Kemble in Gloucestershire.
Further to the last message i can also confirm that i have been accompanied by Steve Francis, John Hedges, Pete Begley and Adrian Smith.
P.S Chris Perry also left Oxford and is currently flying although he does work down here on a part time basis.
All the best for the future, feel free to call for a coffee anytime

I am glad to hear it Pete. I hope life is treating you well, I will pop down to Kemble and pay you a visit.

For your information Ash has now completed his fATPL. Charlie has completed his FAA CPL/ME/IR and is currently converting in to a JAR licence. I am a week or two from hopefully finishing my fATPL also.

All the best,
Tom S.

RVR800 as I understand it a few reasons but particually the new contracts, which meant an inforced paycut, anti-social hours and generally bad moral. Also I believe there were issues over cutting back the number of hours on the ground school.

Indeed, a number have left for pastures new for whatever reason, but Oxford have also taken on another 4 or 5 Ground Instructors recently so it's not all doom and gloom. It just seems that the real characters have gone.

Not sure what is happening on the FI side of things though.

Tea White Non,

Instructors that have left may have had character and good luck to them in whatever they are moving on to do..........we all do it from time to time in our lives and some of us several times!!

However, this is not to say that the new ones have no character - Pete Quinlan for example, grand job I can assure you he will do. When the students have gone home, hopefully with noses in notes and books, Pete will for sure be at home writing question papers etc etc. This guy is 100% (and more if possible) committed to getting HIS studes through the course and he will. He takes great pride in those passes. He will tell you, more than 75% is a grand effort, but any more than that is wasted effort.

Pete Q......."******* Ding dong!!" and "keep the noise down to a dull roar!!"

Nice one Pete Lines didn\'t think you\'d stay awy from it for too long

We still keep in touch with the guys in the corner at Oxford, Del Dick and the ultimate gentleman, General Milne (what a guy!).
Yes Pete Lines has also added his expertise to the cause at Kemble and it's so nice to have him on board.
Muppethead thanks for the best wishes and this goes for all of you. If you fancy a chat or coffee feel free to call. You will always be made welcome.

And they are rumored to be losing two more.

I think management should be getting worried at this rate they will have none left in six months.

Oxford definitely have lost out big-time with those guys leaving.
I shall never forget the lessons they taught me! There I was, arriving at Oxford as a young lady, and leaving with a profound knowledge of how to use the F-word in every sentence thanks to Mr Tindle!

Good Luck guys. Am sure you'll make your new place a f-ing success!

HIGHLIGHT !!!!!

Thanks Steve and all the chaps at Oxford and Kemble for making the path through life that bit easier and helping to maintain a sense of humour.

Got to butt in here:

I won't have anyone poking fun at Del Hammond!

He may need to lay off the sugar a bit but you know you can count on him. 'Nuff said. (that's got to be worth a few feedback questions :D )

P.S. his "girlfriend's" 28 now if any one was wondering ;)

I've been saving for years to go to Oxford and now, when it's within sniffing distance, I read that all the good guys are going, if not gone.

Thanks guys.....thanks a bunch!:{

Only joking! I'm sure that you all thought long and hard before taking off, and having played an equal part in giving Oxford its reputation for quality, whilst helping so many to attain their dreams of a flight licence, I hope that you all find the contentment and conditions you seek, wherever you choose to land.

I trust that Oxford are taking adequate action in replacing quality with quality.

Blow me! Just logged on here to discover that so many have left Oxford.

Why have so many left at once? It appears as if the good guys have gone. They all served me well, especially Steve "Highlight" Tindle, Pete Begley, Steve Francis, Chris Perry and Del Hammond.

If it wasn't for these guys I would never have got through the exams and Thursday Nights would have been so boring!!

All I can say is The new ship at Kemble looks to be a good vessel.

I will be in touch with you guys soon, thanks for the memories but not the jokes Pete!!!!
