Does anyone know of any good books that give aerial views of airfields past and present, How they looked in the past and how the area looks now.

Gareth

Have you seen "Airfields of the Eighth", and "Airfields of the Ninth", both by Roger A Freeman, published by After the Battle? They both give "then & now" aerial photos of the UK fields used by the US 8th & 9th Air Forces.

Also by Roger Freeman is 'Airfields of Bomber Command - Then and Now'

It's along the same lines as the other two excellent books giving details of the birth of the airfields, brief history of units that operated from the base both during & after WWII and a brief "What it's like now". Good aerial pictures from the war/just after & ground pictures of the same.

All I am waiting for now is a book about RAF Fighter Command airfields...
