I've seen Vega come into Frankfurt. At least you'll see 'em coming from a long way off. You'll see the smoke trail when they are still ten miles out!

They don't make 'em like that anymore. :p

If it is smoke trails you are after, try sitting in the departure lounge of any Moscow airport. After a few minutes you can learn to spot the incoming Tupolev's and so on by the emerging smoke trail in the distance. Must make the job of ATC very easy.

Sorry HD, tongue in cheek, had in mind an idea where the smoke trails saved on using radar to spot and plot the aircraft, just the joke did not work and ... <ES exits making small whinging noise dragging coat behind> ... :\
