That time of year has swung around once more.

BRISBASH

This is our 3rd year running and already is shaping up to be the biggest :ok:
Last year saw the first attendance by a Woomeri, who managed to behave :=
Said Woomeri has threatened to reappear this year to apologise and make up for good behaviour :O

This event has been such fun in past years, I can't recommend it more highly, you'll really enjoy yourself, and, let's face it, you can talk aviation until you're blue in the face
Why not make it a date with your 'favouite' PPRuNe adversary and bury the hatchett over a few cold brews :E

All PPRuNe Brisvegas locals, DON'T MISS THIS!!!
All welcome regardless of aviation background or lack thereof :\

When : Saturday 18th December 2004

Where : Breakfast Creek Hotel, Breakfast Creek/Hamilton, Brisbane

Time : 1600 onwards

Accomodation : Plenty of it. Kingsford Smith Drive is the major road. This is 5 mins from the city and 5 - 10 from the a/port.
A couple of weeks out from the event would be a good time to have a look at Wotif (http://www.wotif.com.au/)

Anyone requiring additional information can send me a private message here at PPRuNe or alternatively, an Email (gogirl@<hidden>)

I'd like to lay down the challenge and state that; as yet, we've not had a Kiwi in attendance....... slackers ;)

See you there!

Hi all

Sorry to say I can't be at the BrisBash but I am keen to get suggestions on how to get the Bash Register to y'all in time for your "do".

For those who don't know, the Register is a "lil black book" introduced to the world of proon bashes by OxExpat during his sojourn in Pomgolia during the summer. The book was handed to me for safe-keeping on his departure so I could take it to Florida for the Orlando bash in Oct (which I did) and thence to the GatBash (this coming Saturday) .... thereafter I am under orders to get it Dunnunda for the BrisBash!!

Any suggestions? The Royal Mail last posting date for Christmas is 6 December which is the first posting day after the GatBash so that is probably not workable so ... any ideas for an alternative method of ensuring said Register is in Brissy in time for your bash?

:ok:

luv Brocky (in UK)

PilotsPal
29th Nov 2004, 12:45
If the book is posted on the 6th, I'd say there's more than a fair chance it will be there for the 18th.

OzExpat
30th Nov 2004, 06:28
What's the problem with mailing it on the 6th Brocky? I'll get you to address it to GoGirl - I'll ask her to PM you with her address.

Hi all

There is no problem with mailing the book on the 6th - but if Royal Mail says that that is the last date for CHRISTMAS mail and as we want the book in Brissy the week before then I was just being cautious and seeing if there was a sure-fire alternative way to get the book to the BrisBash!! Otherwise we are at the mercy of the snail mail services!!

Dats all! :ok:

OzExpat
1st Dec 2004, 06:41
Okay Brocky, just because I know you so well - on this one occasion only, I'll let you pay for priority delivery! ;)

1st Dec 2004, 12:01
Gee thanks O Esteemed OzMaaaaaaaaaaate!! I will take said Register to the Post Office and find out what mailing options are available.. OK?!!

P.S. I know I cannot send priority mail to the USA so ... you sure there is a speedy form of airmail to Oz?

DX Wombat
1st Dec 2004, 12:54
Brocken, I find if I post things to West Oz before 1600hrs on a Thursday they usually arrive on the following Tuesday. Not posted anything from here to the Banana-bending state but don't think it will be much different - if at all. :ok:

Just a thought.... I would love to come, but - and this may sound sad - I have a terrible fear of crocodiles....

A mate of mine was attacked by one once. He fought back, but he has never been the same again.

Are there crocs in Brisbane?

OzPax1
2nd Dec 2004, 01:06
The Flying Lip ! Are you trying a wind up!:hmm: :suspect:

Nah...no crocs in Brisbane outside the wildlife parks. Too far south for them....JUST! :E Anyway it's not the crocs that you worry about in Brissey, it's the snakes and spiders! Southeast Queensland is home to the Brown Snake & Red Bellied Black Snake, which after the Austrailian Tiapan are the next most deadly land snakes in the world. And the worst part is the brown hangs around houses a lot as it hunts mice and rats!

Scared you enough yet!! :E

To get the thread back on track. Brock you could send the register back to Oz via UPS or TNT etc. The cost actually won't be that prohibative for something of the weight and size of the bash registier. At least then you'll have peace of mind that it WILL get there in time! :ok:

OzExpat
2nd Dec 2004, 06:26
Brocky... I just tried to send you a PM and was told that yer in-box is full. :{ Among the things I was going to say in the said PM was that I feel sure that you'll want to splurge on courier delivery! :D I wanted to give you some other information that is even more relevant, too...

I reckon that DX has got it right, for times other than the Christmas season. I haven't used snail mail for Christmas mail in a lot of years but recall that, in the past, the quoted closing dates for Christmas mail (at least in Oz) are padded a bit, so DX might still be right.

Oz has priority (express) mail delivery, so I assume that the UK will probably have something similar. But, then again... being the UK, maybe not... :D

Lip maaate! No way are you gunna get away with that excuse for yer visit next year! :p

Dunno why my Inbox is full Ozmaaaaate - there was only one pm there which is now deleted so I have sent a query to our esteemed Admin types!

Do try again .. otherwise just write email!

Good to hear about the speed of mails to Oz Wombat - I will probably investigate a courier option as I have never used one privately before and then make my mind up between that and a signed-for postal service (if the Royal Mail offers that to Oz). :ok:

GoGirl
2nd Dec 2004, 13:20
G'day all!

Thanks for all your efforts thus far Brocky ;)

A mailing address for the register will be;

Amanda GoGirl
6 Bull St
Currimundi
QLD 4551
Australia

This is my business postal address, so I'm afraid those of you with thoughts of bombing my mailbox will have to await future opportunities to do so :p

If there's an option for express delivery, I'll be happy to pick up the charges this end - beit COD or whatever.

Thanks again mate :ok:

5th Dec 2004, 19:23
I can report that the Register will be on its way to Currimundi tomorrow but it is absent any trace of the GatBash.

The reason? No, not that I didn't have it with me but asking a few folks early-ish in the evening got a "maybe later" response and then later the idea of having to go round the 75+ attendees and virtually demand a signature just didn't seem appropriate ...

Maybe someone else more persistent could have gotten sigs but to be honest I think the Register needs to be used for non-GatBash bashes where a real group-dynamic builds among a small group of prooners/attendees...

Hope y'all don't consider me a failure for this but signing the Register is meant to be a spontaneous thing and not a burden!!

:ok:

OzExpat
6th Dec 2004, 07:16
Huh? Not even the Admins or Mods? :{ Well that blows away the post I just made on the Gatbash thread... Guess I shouldn't be surprised by the lack of espirit de corps among the members, but I'd have thought the management types would've signed it...

Very disheartening, but at least there'll be enough space for all those attending the upcoming Brisbash! Thanks for trying Brocky :ok: And, yes, it should be a spur of the moment thing, mixed with an element of madness, but definitely not a chore.

DX Wombat
6th Dec 2004, 08:38
OzE, before you go slamming people for not signing it, I think you ought to know that many probably were not aware that the register was even there. I for one thought it was already on its way to BNE. Perhaps it might have been an idea for it to have been available at the signing in desk so people could have been made aware of its existence.

brockenspectre
6th Dec 2004, 12:48
Yeah Ozmaaaaate don't blame the members, as Wombat rightly points out - if someone is to be slammed here then 'tis I. Quite simply, because the "maybe later" early reponses didn't give me a warm feeling and and later on I didn't see how I would be more than a pest tugging at people's elbows I returned the book to my room and left it at that.

What has made the entries in the Register thus far so special are that they are witty and bash-specific. Leaving the Register at reception would not achieve this level of humour - we already know who attends a GatBash 'cos it is formally arranged. Maybe I am mistaken but I think the Register is for folks to get a little silly in "commemoration" and in support of PIREPs!!

PS Edited to add that the Register is on its way by Royal Mail Signed For Priority Handling under reference RI 3744 1494 9GB

OzExpat
7th Dec 2004, 06:46
Thanks DX and Brocky. A shame that there isn't a few select entries at least, but you're probably right that the Register is more useful at the smaller bashes. Thanks for the despatch details... we'll hold the book in Oz for the "Inaugural Port Morbid Bash in Cairns" :D and return it to the Yoo-Kay in time for the next Cardiff Bash. :ok:

Can probably send it elsewhere, for other occasions, if required.

Brocky thanks very much!!
The register arrived yesterday afternoon, with just 1 day to spare!!!

Whew! ;)

I had myself a chuckle or 2 whilst flicking through the pages.....I've also come to the conclusion that that Reddo chickadee, really is a feral animal :E :E :E

Well, it's the eve of the bash, and the wx here has suddenly turned for the better!
The last 2 weeks it's been like living in the tropics with all the rain we've had + heat = humidity hovering around 85-95%
Just last night however, a change rolled through bringing refreshing and cool SE breazes along with it :ok: Humidity for now, back down to quite tolerable levels.
Quite compatible with sipping Long Island Iced Teas at the Breakky Creek :ok:

Woohoo!!!

Hiya GoGirl I am so glad the Register arrived - I have been taking a peek at this thread from time to time and as at lunchtime today was getting a tad concerned that it wouldn't arrive in time! 19th Dec 2004, 02:26
And there goes another year...........

First task on the agenda is to thank every one of you who attended for making the night a great success :ok:

Official attendees;

OzExpat
GoGirl
Disco Stu
Wirraway
Mrs Wirraway who is by far the biggest legend PPRuNe has never known!!!
Torres
Ms Torres
Flyinverted
Mrs Flyinverted
Animalclub
The Voice
Mr The Voice-to-be

Unofficial attendees;

Tipsy feral animal, can't be trusted.....absolute cad with the ladies
Woomera Ok, IT attended, but it was all too brief
Kaptin M because he rang from a land far far away
Pinky The Pilot because he SMS'd from a land far far away
Northernchique
the story is she's been kidnapped, there's a large ransom outstanding

I guess the tone of the night was set when Disco Stu left me alone in the hotel room to go and collect Ozexpat from the Airport.
2 words spring to mind

MINI BAR :E

Suffice to say, the boys walked and I swayed somewhat to the stairs of the entrance to the Hotel where Ozexpat took the obligatory 'Pub Shot' with his camera.

We couldn't have asked for a better day wx wise. A balmy 30c or thereabouts, perfect drinking wx :ok:
The Breakfast Creek hotel again provided the perfect atmosphere.

We almost stumbled straight into Mr and Mrs Wirraway, who'd taken it upon themselves to kick off proceedings with a few coldies. What's a girl to do? Cheers to that!
....and cheers some more!!!

Soon thereafter Torres and Ms arrived, and well, I reckon the pictures will speak for themselves, alas there was no doubting we were a bunch of PPRuNers!

Before we were able to get too serious, we had to move digs to accommodate the expanding group.
Gee, I think now, if we'd stayed where we were, the next reprobate would have well and truly given up on us :p
But Animalclub did spot us, so there was no turning back!!

I think maybe 20 minutes had elapsed from the time we 3 amigos arrived until the first PNG gaff began := Possibly a record.
We'd just had enough time to throw back a drink each when Mr and Mrs Flyinverted arrived, beaming the glow of newly-weds!

Cheers to that :ok:
.....and cheers some more!!!

Soon the procession to the bar became more frequent, and Mrs Wirrawy seemed to be cutting the lead most trips!
It was apparant that most of us could've eaten a horse, chased the jokey, then grazed on the turf, so we ordered our renowned steaks.

The bash register made the rounds and history was once again recorded; albeit a blurred, undecipherable version :\

We moved the discussion from aviation to age - as you do - and I believe the quote of the evening ;
Torres 'I don't think he's as old as me'
OzEx 'Torres mate, no one's as old as you!'

Safer to get the discussion back to aviation and PNG once again became the topic.

The Voice & Mr The Voice-to-be were the latecommers, but they had a resonable excuse.
And well, whaddya know, they've not long been engaged, so.....cheers to that!
...and cheers some more!!!

Myself, Mrs Wirra & Ms Torres then decided to make the boys a little scared and started to organise a chicks shopping weekend expedition :E
Wirraway drowned his sorrows and vowed to buy more lenses for his camera!

We put in a good few solid hours of banter, food and drink, and for what its worth, I personally enjoyed myself immensely!

Pulled up pretty well this morning, and enjoyed a leisurely buffet breakky with OzEx and Disco Stu.
We then saw The Voice & Mr The Voice-to-be away and kicked OzEx out on the kurb at the airport.

Have now just arrived home to a REALLY PISSED OFF CAT :suspect:

I'll try to get some piccies up and online by the end of the day.

Thanks again all, and to those who didn't make it - there's always next year!

Cheers
GG

I think that Animal Club has been unfairly blamed for that comment about Torres's age tho... ;)

Good to see that the standards of debauchery at this esteemed bash have been maintained! :E This I am sure is no doubt down to GoGirl's BrisBash Organising Commitee :} & OzExpat's hard earned knowledge of how to Bash. :p

Now OzExpat, how much is required to grease the wheels to see the Pics that didn't make the cut? :E :ok:

I've just been reviewing those pics OP1. They're a riot in more ways than one :E but I've come to the conclusion that my life would come to a sudden and horrendous end if any of them were to be published... :uhoh:

You'll just have to be there next year and take yer own photos! :D

One of the main rules for self preservation is... Do not take a pic of any of the Woomeri who attend the bash! Failure to observe this simple precaution will, I'm sure, have dire consequences for you! :O
