This has been bugging me for ages! Does anyone know what the building work at EGPF/GLA is adjacent to the tower? It's been going on for ages and nobody I've spoken to know's what they are doing.

Cheer's,

I'm told it is for additional GA parking but that is not authoritative.

I believe it is 4 (maybe 6) new parking stands.

It is new parking stands but the aircraft will nose in to the tower and it will only be able to take 2 757's. IMHO a complete waste of time. If they needed additional parking they should have levelled the taxi rank by the loganair hangar which could have started early on the development of the proposed international pier extension.

True, seems daft. The taxi park would make a good place. Would that mean taxiing in past stand 36 then turning right? It may turn into a bit of a bottle neck, also I'm not sure, from memory, that there is much more space there than by the tower.

It is the future plans of the airport to level the 2 hangars and build a second intl pier, so it makes sense to expand where additional stands will be built in the future.

When the aircraft are required to depart from remote it would be far better to depart them from near the intl pier as opposed to next to the tower.

Unfortunately the Loganair hanger has been identified as the last remaining building of it's type. Therefore Scottish National Heritage have slapped a preservation order on it, so they can't knock it down. However there are plans to move the BA hanger and extend the terminal there. Also the BAA own the football pitches by the Cart behind the long stay car park, and this is a another site for expansion.

Its easy enough to dismantle one of those hangars and rebuild it elsewhere though, i cant see the baa let it get in the way of the expansion as the airport is very limited.

An extension to the ba hangar would require it to be domestic and the current middle pier becoming intnl or a seperate international pier which would involve 2 sets of immmigration passport control customs etc cant see that?.

Well who knows, but I do know that those are the plans of the BAA. (The guys in ATC told me that on wed when I was in the tower.) They could just level the "low cost" pier rebuild it, build another pier onto it, and move all the international traffic to the 2 new piers. Then use the current international pier for domestic traffic. Just a thought.
Hey Codpiece maybe we could work together for once and send the BAA a bill for our building consultancy work?? ;) :ok:

I'm pretty sure we could do a better job than they are doing at present anyway.
