Im on the april course, handed in my resignation and am looking forward to getting down to bournemouth for my course.. .One problem - where do I live??. .What do most students do for the 18 months, rent, hotel/B&B?. .A B&B sounds a bit small but I dont want to tie myself down to a rental contract for too long incase the worst happens!

Most stay in B&B to start, once you find out who your mates are you willl rent a property. That seems to be the way it went for most folk

Stay in the world famous Westby road in Boscombe! It is a street with about 100 b&bs!

Handy for the boozers until you decide what to do!

i stayed in a B+B in Westby road for the entire course. It was winter, so the whole place was empty except for the half dozen of us there. T'Was a great laugh...no cooking, cleaning and The Seagull is just down the road for quiz night!

I seem to remember they gave us a list of B+Bs that did special rates for student ATCO's...basically they charged the accommodation allowance that NATS paid for bed , breakfast and evening meal...so you weren't out of pocket.

Just wish I could remember the names of the better ones!

I spoke to a guy who said he paid £65 per week for his B&B. Anyone else paid similar rates and did this include evening meals?

You really oughta stay in Westby Road for at least the first course, and get the social aspect well and trully polished. I paid £50 excluding evening meal, but got free use of the kitchen in the evening, and some fridge/freezer space. As 6 of the 9 rooms were Cadets, cooking was easy. During the summer, there is a great house just by the main Southampton train station, owned by a Uni students parents, who are looking for cadets for the summer, as the dates tie in perfectly. Other than that, many holiday home places will do 'long term' contracts to suit, ie. three months.

And sad news, heard recently that the Seagull was closed down due to Gypsies in the car park?????? May the old girl now Rest In Peace without any more fear of Wednesday night football pissups!!!!

In the early 90s when I was there, westby road b+b's were £75 bed, brekkie and evening meal.

Hi-sorry about this-a bit trivial, but what did you guys and girls do about laundry when you were there? Do the B&Bs have laundry facilities or are there laundrettes nearby?

Just trying to find out beforehand so that I don't have to buy a new shirt every day :)

Are you looking for accomodation in Luxembourg or what was that?? . .Anyway Im going to BOH in April as well, but as a pilot though, Im staying in Westby Road, a B&B where you can use the kitchen facilities, prices are from 45-55£ a month.

Yes, I am looking for accomodation, having been stood up by my potential flatmates in Bereldange (just north of Lux. city centre).

However, all is not lost. I called into IANS on Friday afternoon and spoke to the lady in the course reservations office. If anyone gets there without having found somewhere permanent, then they will not be alone. Apparently, on that Friday afternoon, 6 people (out of 20) who are due to start on March 11th had not been told.

ZZZ. .. .Contrary to alarming stories, the Seagull never closed, but several local hostelries were shut due to damage from our Romany cousins.. .. .There are rumours that the gypsies did indeed riot in the Seagull and caused £100,000 of improvements!!

Might be able to offer a rented room in Bournemouth from April if anyone is interested.
