Hi to you all!
I was wondering if anyone had any fresh news on Flybe recruitment needs. Do they usually pay for your T/R? Do you get a bond on it?

Apart from advertising for the current sponsorship scheme with Cabair, recruitment currently on hold, although expecting them to advertise for crews soon.
They do pay for your type rating but you will be bonded to the company for 3years. You will start on the Dash-8-400. Excellent a/c to fly.

Not sure that's exactly correct regarding their recruitment. Believe, albeit secondhand, that some interviews have recently taken place.

What makes the Dash 8-400 an excellent aircraft to fly in your opinion? What characteristics and features do you like?
Just curious, but why would someone want to fly for Flybe on the Dash 8-400 if they could skip the prop and fly a 737 at Easy or Ryanair instead? What differentiates Flybe from other UK airlines in your opinion?

I'd rather fly for flybe if they are going to pay for my type and bond me.

Concur. At the moment I'd fly for anyone that's prepared to pay me a half decent salary. And it's not a question of skipping turboprops. There are not that many ab-initio jet jobs around and you have to be very lucky. Reality is that most will have to serve their apprenticeship elsewhere before moving up to the big time.
Q400 has glass cockpit and 360 kt cruise so is quite gucci as turbo-props go. :)
It doesn't actually reach 360kt. That is sometimes possible on the groundspeed but only with a stonking tailwind. Cruises very nicely at 280kts.
Can get a decent climb out of it when it's light though, and most have a bit of 'fun' and manage to get 4000fpm ROC just after rotation!

It's a great a/c to fly. Bit on the heavy side, but certainly builds up your muscles when doing a visual approach! Glass cockpit is excellent. Good base from which to learn before progressing onto nice shiny jets!

I would make a career somewhere like Flybe, i like the planes the route structure and the type of flying.
Its down to your type of flying and i think its what you want as a career

the Bombardier performance stuff is accurate, Its TAS that counts not IAS.

Thats funny er82, I could have sworn the Q400 I was flying the other day was TAS'ing 370kts and indicating 284kts @ FL240.
Adding the tailwind on we had a ground speed of 420KTS on our way down to BHX.
The 400 is'nt a jet but it still feels fast when your overkaking one of those ATR things doing 280kts TAS!!!
