Evening all,

I heard the sound of a Merlin today at about 2.30 at Elstree and caught sight of what I assumed was an early mark Spitfire (one radiator only, I think) receeding into the distance. This coincided with an RAF Equirel landing at the airfield. Does anyone know what it was all in aid of?

Just wondering,

Elstree is only a mile or so north of RAF Bentley Priory, which was the home of Fighter Command in the Battle of Britain. As a result they have lots of commemorations for the 'old boys', and often a Spitfire from the BBMF does a 'fly-past' and then heads off north on his way home again. Maybe this is what you saw.

I was thinking along those lines and assuming that the Helo had come from Northolt.
