View Full Version : College/girlfriend?
a_exley 26th Sep 2004, 23:10 Hello, I am (hopefully) going to be starting the college course at the begining of next year. I am thinking of moving down there with my girlfriend but I am in two minds wether to go by myself. I know the course is going to be hard and I am not sure what to do? Has anyone else gone through this? what would you recomend? Thanks for your time. :(
Vampy 27th Sep 2004, 09:10 Depends how serious & how long you've been with the girlfriend. Personally I wouldn't have got through the college without the help and support of my girlfriend, but then I'm from a lot further north than Milton Keynes so it was difficult for me to get home regularly at weekends. Also she had just finished uni so she was able to move down straight away without worrying about leaving a job behind. Plus you have to consider postings when you complete the course. Presumably your girlfriend works at the moment. Wouldn't look great on the CV if she quit one job, moved to Bournemouth for 18 months to get another job. Then if you get posted to anywhere other than Southampton or LACC, she will have to quit yet another job to move yet again. The college is pretty intensive and you do need to be fully focussed (spelling?!?:D ) If you're only in MK I'd just slog it out at the college then move her when you get your final posting. Hope this is of some use to you and good luck at the college!:ok:
mr.777 27th Sep 2004, 09:17 Hello mate.
I've been at the college for 6 mths now, just finished air/gmc last week.I live just down the road from you in Dunstable.Takes me about 2hrs to get home on Fridays straight from college,so its not that far away even though it may seem like it!
I split up with my g/friend about 2 wks into the course, although it had nothing to do with the college.A couple of guys on my course moved down to Bournemouth with gfriends/wives,others went home at w/ends...depeds what you wnat really.I wouldn't worry about it too much,

Legs11 27th Sep 2004, 10:17 My now wife was my girlfriend before and during my bournemouth stint. I went home most weekends or she went down:ooh:
You need to join in with the other course members in the 'team building' social activities during the week aswell as study hard, so if your girlfriend is particularly possesive, leave her at home and visit:uhoh:
a_exley 27th Sep 2004, 11:24 Thanks for your help. I will let you know what happens. I am sure it will be fine. Whats the social activities like on the course?? "Team Building?"
AlanM 27th Sep 2004, 12:03 Team Building
Getting p1s$ed! (important team building though)
and she might not approve of FYEO
HEATHROW DIRECTOR 27th Sep 2004, 14:45 Take her with you and keep away from the total prats who think life comes out of a bottle of lager.
Good luck and hope you succeed.
Barry Cuda 27th Sep 2004, 15:04 A_Exley, all depends on the sort of person you are, and also what type of person your girlfriend is... There is a lot of socialising (Not all of it debauched!!!) and if you're both quite relaxed in other company, and like seeing the same people 24/7, you should be ok.
Whereabouts in MK are you? If you need any help I live in MK as well....
a_exley 27th Sep 2004, 17:21 I live in stony stratford. my hotmail is a_exley@<hidden>. Are you qualified now? what was the course like for you? thanks
Fidgell 27th Sep 2004, 19:14 Take her with you, she can join in with the regular team building stuff at the seagull and in town, unless youre a retired heathrow director, in which case the librarys and loners clubs are probably listed in the yellow pages.... for the young team players, the social life is what keeps you sane through the hard work ahead!:\
Where is life if not at the bottom of a bottle..... ahhh sweet stella!
:ok:
Fletchers Left Boot 27th Sep 2004, 19:28 This might be better off posted in the Agony aunt forum!
As for the Seagull, sadly it's now a building site :{
a_exley 28th Sep 2004, 07:06 I am looking forward to meeting new people with the same passion as mine as much as actually taking the course!! :ok:
hangten 28th Sep 2004, 18:06 the seagull. r.i.p.
i remember karaoke and many good nights begun there! it wasn't pretty but neither will another block of flats be...
Jerricho 28th Sep 2004, 18:33 The Seagull is gone?
Right, I want the round table that was in the far corner with my name engraved on it. It's mine I tells ya!
Turn It Off 28th Sep 2004, 18:51 I am deeply distraught!
The seagull is gone?
Might as well relocate the college to Swanwick now!
DtyCln 28th Sep 2004, 18:59 Bring your woman down, we all want a look see.
Whoever you are seeing, engaged to, married to it doesn't matter, you'll be shagging something off the course in no time!
Many a married student ATCO has felt the need to cuddle up with another student during the long dark bournemouth winters. Units around the country are littered with divorced ATCO's, particulary divorced ATCO's who were caught giving their trainee one to console them for that failed assessment.
I must agree with previous post though, FYEO and Spearmint Hippo's never goes down too well with her indoors!
Like I say though, bring her down with you, she will make some ATCO, probably not you, a lovely wife!
Before you all dive in to your keyboards, think, you know its all true.......;)
niknak 28th Sep 2004, 19:12 Dont do it!
If you take her with you, in no time at all, both you and she will feel oppressed and that you are both missing out on mates new and old. No matter what you think now, she will get in your way from both a wroking and social point of view.
Simply look forward to the occasional weekend away after a week of working your balls off.
If you think that your future is with your present lady, good for you and good luck.
However, as you progress, new environments lead to new opportunities, that's life.
Leave her at home, and things will take their natural course.
VectorLine 28th Sep 2004, 20:04 DtyCln - nail on the head.
As for the Seagul being gone........ very sad news..
So what's the haunt for Boscombe SATC's now?
viaEGLL 29th Sep 2004, 09:41 GT3 i have recently found out FYEO has been renamed to spearmint rhino !!!I think that looks better on the credit card statement:ok: :ok: :ok: I remember if you mentioned you were with atc they didnt charge you an entrance fee:O :O I wouldnt take the girlfriend to those team building evenings , well depends i suppose:O :O
around the time i was there (108) i believe, so i was told, that there was an "atc discount" on the door. I think the rhino is in another location and FYEO is still there.
Jerricho 29th Sep 2004, 12:41 *Shakes head in disgust*
Encouraging people to hang out in dens of disrepute............shamefull! :E
not encouraging, simply providing general information.
a_exley 29th Sep 2004, 17:27 Sounds good to me!! I am looking forward to staring already!! all these strip clubs!! ATC discount! as for DtyCln thanks for the unhelpful advice. Trust me, you wont be getting a "look see".
viaEGLL 29th Sep 2004, 18:11 Well Jerricho you would know all about the discount wouldnt you ;) ;) ;) ;) I bet FYEO doesnt have a club in winnipeg:ok: :ok:
Jerricho 29th Sep 2004, 18:44 Me?
If anybody tells you the door staff knew me by name at FYEO, there telling porkies!
And you're right viaEGLL.........although I'm told there is a bar called Hooters ;)
AlanM 29th Sep 2004, 18:48 "Mrs Jerricho, Mrs Jerricho.........!!"
You naughty boy you.
Writing small is hard to see dude!!
dusto 29th Sep 2004, 20:12 Jerricho,
I'm dissapointed!!! How long HAVE you been in Winnipeg? You are going to have to ask someone you work with to take you to "The Gentlemans Club". It is the best around, but there is also "Teasers", and "Centerfolds", but both of those are not nearly as nice. At Centerfolds you're likely to find mostly drunk natives.
Jerricho 29th Sep 2004, 20:26 Awww crap. Have I been involved in another thread hi-jacking? Sorry, sorry, sorry...........
Not apologising to you Alan :p
mr m. where do i start ;)
viaEGLL 30th Sep 2004, 17:16 Hooters mmmm!! Sounds like that would fit just nicely in west drayton:O :O Jerricho you were topic of conversation this morning as we discussed the coldest place on the planet to work and we thought of you:O :O Well i just said think of the corporate membership at hooters:ok: :ok:
Jerricho 30th Sep 2004, 18:19 About me? Wow, must have been a really slow day.
viaEGLL 30th Sep 2004, 18:27 Yeah it was but i didnt like to say:D :D By the way thanks for the folder saved me a lot of time and effort , i would buy you a beer but i thought i would just give it to gilly instead:ok: :ok:
Legs11 4th Oct 2004, 14:41 Is that Gilly from Stockport?
PPRuNe Radar 4th Oct 2004, 14:51 Major thread drift .... out.
