Can anybody tell me what the (2 engines-out) glide speed is for the Seminole? Can't seem to find any reference to it in the POH

QSK,

Don't quote me on this one - as you say it is not a defined speed in the POH, but we were told to use 88kts IAS, this being the 'best rate of climb' would also give the least rate of descent.

That was what our instructors told us anyway!

Cant remember well, its been a while, but my guess is that it must be the same blue line speed, since its the speed at which less total drag is developed? Any other suggestions apart from look it up in the POH?:D

Should be Blue Line...
Is the Seminole that unreliable ?

The best glide speed for most light twins is usually about 10 knots above blue line and similar to Vy, of course it depends on the state of the props (feathered or not), but I would say something like 90-95 KIAS in a PA44

Eg. Beech give a best glide range speed for the Ducky as 95 KIAS (Vyse + 10)

Least rate of descent --> minimum power required, which is less than Vy, and probably less than Vyse. Much much less if the propellers aren't feathered! But that's not best glide speed...

If best glide speed is less than Vy and more than Vyse, I guess that explains why they say it's 88kts for the PA44... :)

Depends which you define as "Best" glide. Do you want max time in the air or longest glide over the ground?

The PA-44 manual gives neither.
Most of the time the best glide speed refers to L/D max this gives us max glide range. On all the planes I've flown it sits somewhere between Vx and Vy (82 and 88 respectively for a PA-44)
The only aircraft I've flown that also gave a speed for min rate of descent was the Zlin 242, and it was not the same speed as Vy actually closer to Vx.

So I'd have to say I'd be shooting for around 85 kts or so. To tell you the truth I dont think it would be much different to holding 88!

But then the Duchess example seems to be different again.
Oh well

Dont quote me, but im pretty sure 88 KIAS is the best s/e speed, and im pretty sure its the same on the PA34. I would be using blue line, but lets prey that never happens.

Ahhhhh the Seminole........

Has anyone found a copy of the PA44 POH on the net?

Or could give me a link to an electronic copy?

Not sure of the best glide speed, but you could ask the instructor who ran out of fuel during circuit training at Moorabbin a few years back - he dead sticked it into a nearby golf course and bent it a lot.
