hi all
just a simple question
are there any flight engineers at Qantas or any airline for that matter on the 747-300? or were there just on the -200 and SP series?
the reason i ask i saw a photo in the qantas 2004 annual report of a flight deck of what looks like a 747 with F/E sitting on right hand side. (or was it a sim)
Obviously the 767 is glass deck and does not require F/Es

You bet there are!!
Still about 60 or so. All B747 types except the -400 have engineers. Generally, they are a great resource and a great source of information. Give me a "ginger beer" over an EICAS any day.
Latest word on the Classic is that it'll be there till 2011-2013. With many F/Es close to retirement - some desperately hanging on for a package - it's likely that there will be some recruitment for F/Es.
May be time for RAAF engineers to start a mail in!!
Incidentally DJ Dave, early model 767s did have an engineer. Ansett had them initially until they realised they were doing bugger all and getting paid s%^tloads to do it!!

There's the odd one around if you need one for an ocean crossing!
