Qf 6066 ?

hi all anyone know where this flight was going to?took off from LHR around 8.30 am local heading east. also anyone got any ideas about the islander flighing over south london last night?

Are you sure it's flight number 6066? If memory serves me correct, any flight number above 400 is domestic. Below 400 is domestic.

QF6066 is a charter flight QF are temporarily using to enable them to make use of the 2 landing slots they purchased for 20 million earlier this year.

They had to start using the slots by mid year or would lose them. As they don't have enough aircraft to cover the flights themselves they are using a charter aircraft.

I can't remember the exact details but I think its a BA146 aircraft going to either Newcastle or Manchester. I read the memo about it month ago and can't remember the details!!!

Are flight numbers over 400 domestic and flight numbers under 400 international?

Capt. J. you are correct. In addition flight numbers over 1600 are either regional flights or charters.

The BAe146 is a charter to ferry pax to Manchester and back to save taking the B744 all the way up there like they used to. (pulled out over 5 years ago now). The charters are to all sorts of places, have seen Barcelona, Milan, and Tenerife if memory serves me right, and it uses one of the B744's that normally just sit around all day.

These charters have been done by Qantas for a couple of years now. They are for a cruise ship company operating in the Mediterranean and elsewhere and use one of the 747s that normally spends all day at Heathrow. They tend to go to a different point each time meeting the ship. Obviously a whole shipload of passengers is appropriate for the 747s capacity, and it's a marginal time operation but one that suits an aircraft otherwise parked up from early mrning to late evening (of which there are quite a few at Heathrow each day).

Here's the original plan for the rest of August:


Sat 14 Aug - QF 6048 Copenhagen
Fri 20 Aug - QF 6066 Barcelona
Mon 30 Aug - QF 6070 Athens

They tend to leave about 08.00 local and return in the afternoon.

A Qantas 747 is due in Cork around 24th or 26 September. Not sure of arrival time but due out at 1630, so I am told anyway!
