Anyone have any ideas what I can do/join/participate in/etc in order to have something to discuss about teamwork. I'm a member of several music groups (brass bands), but I don't think this will provide much for interviews (with regards to sponsorship selections etc).

I would appreciate your help massively! *stretches arms* thisss biggg!

Mate it isn't hard ... all you need is to mention that you play a golf handicap of 6 or under and they will be eating out of the palm of your hand. Also discuss your strongly held belief that the Daily Telegraph is the only paper left in the country that isn't a load of pinko commie soft porn trash, how you much prefer the 'old' 5 series BMW to the new one, and that you are a paid-up member of your local Tory constituency. You'll be a training captain in no time :ok:

No seriously, these interview types are people as well believe it or not, and they are actually interested in finding out about you the person ... you could try telling them about the stuff you are actually into (i.e., brass bands) instead of making stuff up, or even worse, going and pretending to do stuff you aren't really into just so it would look good on your cv!

I certainly don't think I could lie convincingly in a stressful interview situation about how I've always been into rugby / soccer / dumb group bonding type sports since I was a kid, when the truth is that I think it's a load of b*llocks :ok:

I reckon playing in a brass band is pretty interesting, don't be embarrassed about it! For what it's worth, when I had the interview for the job I've now got, I told the big scary management-pilot interview panel a couple of hoary old stories from the days when I was in a high school punk band and they were having a right old laugh about it ...

Yes, I reckon music is a good thing to have on your CV. It shows dedication in learning the instrument and "keeping current". A band involves taking responsibility, leading at times, following at other times. It's definitely a team effort and is probably a great concersation starter.

If you can't find any relevance to teamwork in your various bands, then I'd venture to suggest that you've missed the point of being in a group with a common aim! There is nothing about aviation (or any other career) that demands your experiences should be only aviation (or sport, or whatever) related.

The point of such questions is to see whether you can extract lessons from the life you lead, not the one you'd like to lead. Families, bands, schools, companies, etc are all teams - and each presents many worthwhile experiences that you can draw upon.

Thanks very much all!

It's great to have personal advice from the comfort of my own home (kinda...)

Once again thanks
