I was on the ground airside at LCY a short while ago watching a 146 trundle off to the far end for departure. As he turned onto the runway to backtrack, I saw him exercise the controls (a full-and-free check?), but the bizarre thing was, I am convinced I saw the right elevator go down, followed by the left one - they didn't move simultaneously. Then they both came back up to neutral together.

Was I seeing things?

Hilico,

You're absolutely right.

The controls are moved by servo-tabs. So on a full and free check on the ground when the servo hits the limit, the control surface is pulled up, but the main flight control surface is moved by servo-tab.

Please don't be alarmed.

Thanks Ellie. Think I'll stick to R22s - at least on those, the pitch is supposed to be able to change independently.
