With all this talk about busy airspace and complaints about low flying, I thought I'd share this little piece of Co Tyrone with you.

People still enjoy watching an aircraft land in the field and will come over for a chat with their kids to get a photo taken in the aircraft.

Sometimes it does get busy, this was the my USAF wingman a couple of years ago. He slowed down to Rallye speed and followed me home at about 50 M from my left wingtip.

We also get the odd visitor

People still enjoy watching an aircraft land in the field Judging by the picture, there were loads crowded round the edge of the runway on that particular trip. The only time I've flown in Ireland was a 1 hour lesson at Waterford last year. The visibility was pretty awful though, so it was more handling and less sight-seeing. :(

Funny that, we went to the "sunny Isle of White" a couple of weeks ago and found the same.

AerBabe,

Don't you think your post was a bit sharp, it almost sounded like you don't like Ireland.

I think what Tony is saying, is that we don't have much traffic over here and we do our best to keep the public on our side.

Letting kids sit aeroplanes is a good way of doing this.

Erm no... I've re-read it and, to me, it still reads as disappointed in the weather rather than a random dislike of the country because it happened to be hazy. I do rather like Ireland. Even when it rains.

Hi Tony, Do you have a name for your field or co-ordinates and the runway details.

Mike

Ken, lighten up an stop taking things so seriously, the Aerbabe is ok really, but she still has not got a date for the NW fly-in.

map5623, I just call it home, others call it Newmills airfield.

It is 54.34N, 006.45W on the 260 R at 19 D from the BEL VOR, R/w 27-09, 400 x 15 yards 350ft AMSL.

It is a bit scary with the trees on the 27 app but ok for STOL aircraft and Microlights, I had a 182 and a 172 Rocket in here (on my own with little fuel) but usually just fly the Rallye from here to work in Donegal.
