My nephew just turned 14 and so I had him come out to the States to see if I couldn't get him to solo a glider, which incidentally, he's about ready to do.

My question is, what are the requirements in the UK? Can he still solo in England at 14? Will he need a medical? etc etc

TIA

There is no medical required to fly a glider in the UK. The minimum age to act as pilot in command of a glider in the UK is 16 years (ANO Article 30)

Onan

Just gotta say, you got a great name!

PS I knew Latin at school wasn't pointless after all.

I thought 16 was the solo requirement here in the states as well ...

No medical required though.

It was recently lowered to 14 in NZ, apparently to align NZ gliding rules with overseas.

I understand that the minimum age for glider solo in Germany is 14. I think also that the boys down at Gatwick are considering a minimum of 15 here. No medical required unless about to take up instructing. :)
