The Airport Don Quijote, wich begin operation in 2006, presents logistic offer to the whole sector, thanks to a stand of 40 square meters, in the course of the Lounge VI International of the Logistics (SIL), who is celebrated in Barcelona from May 25 to May 28

The Airport Don Quijote will possess the major logistic platform of Europa's south, approximately, 1.800 hectares of surface dedicated to this activity and a terminus of load of 7.000 square meters for perishable products, general goods and service courier.

One of principal advantage competitive that the Airport Don Quijote offers to the companies of the sector of the transport and the logistics is the customs management and the sanitary operative service of inspection 24 hours of the day. It, joined an infrastructure capable of receiving all kinds of aircraft in functioning every day of the year and without any type of restrictions, they place to this airport, next Ciudad Real, the forefront of the aeronautical Spanish offer. The terminus of load will possess his own independent platform for aircraft and there will be located close to the zone of handling, which will allow to improve the process of load and exhaust of perishable goods.

Other one of the strong points of the Airport Don Quijote is his location. The companies of load and logistics will possess a modern network of distribution for road, since with the new infrastructure there coincide both new railcars that will join Lisbon with the Levante (A-43) and that Madrid will communicate with Cordoba, across Ciudad Real (AP-41).

In addition, it is foreseen to possess a conventional specific railway station for load (joined a direct access with the high-speed train for passengers), that it will facilitate to a great number of companies to export his products of rapid and efficient form for plane to any place of world.

The International Lounge of the Logistics (SIL) is the point of meeting of the whole logistic activity of Europa's south, the basin of the Mediterranean (especially the countries of the Maghrib), Latin America and the Asian Southeast. After five editions, it has turned into the great fairground contest of the logistics and of the transport into Spain and into the second fairground reference of the sector into Europe. In this edition it possesses 700.000 square meters of exhibition, 600 companies and 900 participants who will receive approximately 35.000 visitors.

The Airport Don Quijote is the first international airport deprived of public use of Spain which integral development will suppose an investment superior to 1.100 million Euros. The airport appears as the great European alternative for the aeronautical industry and of the transport. His strategic situation, with direct connection with Madrid and Cordoba (45 minutes) for high-speed train (AVE(HIGH SPEED TRAIN)) and links with the principal railcars turn him into a point favoured for the intermodal transport.

Is this a totally new airport or a conversion from previous use. I was going to make a post about brand new airports. How many are currently under construction worldwide?

The only one I can think of is Montserrat. There must be more

Flightmapping: This is a totally new airport. This airport is currently under construction in the province of Ciudad Real in central Spain near the provincial capital city of the same name "Ciudad Real". This is a fairly nondescript city of some 70.000 inhabitants. The city is experienced enormous growth since in the introduction of the AVE (the Spanish high speed train) in 1992. Madrid is 200 km. north of Ciudad Real (only 45 minutes on the AVE). This airport is the first private airport in Spain. New motorways are currently under construction and the AVE line is being extended to the future airport terminal. This airport could well become a second airport for Madrid. Cordoba is also only about 200 km. south of Ciudad Real. This is a very flat area of Spain and not very densley populated. Weather conditions are also excellent, yet a little too hot in summer. Very little rain. More info can be found on: www.donquijoteairport.com

Toulouse,

Many thanks for that. Looks very interesting. I presume not too many nimbys round there then. Now an airport 200k from the city centre - what an ideal place for a new Ryanair Spain hub!

Then again, the AVE could also access Seville, Cordoba etc, which are not well served atm. I think they are extending it from Ciudad Real down towards Malaga too, but don't know exact routing.

For other airport projects, http://www.airport-technology.com/projects/index.html is well worth a look
