View Full Version : Where to sell old magazines etc?

While tidying up the office in the local ATC squadron last night, we came across stacks of old training manuals and other bits of paperwork and magazines. A lot of them date back to the mid 1940s and we suspect they would be worth quite a lot of money to the right person. Being short of cash and space, we're keen to sell these if we can, but we need to get a good price. Can anyone suggest the best place to go?

Thanks! AB

This morning a fine old chap, who commanded a Lanc Sqn after the war popped in to show me his latest attic find, a Mk IIA speed and drift computer.

A bit like a modern Whizz wheel but far more complicated(mechanically geared) and complete with a a custom wooden box. Apparently they were standard EFT items before WW2!

I took him out to an aeroplane to show him a Pilot III GPS and he was quite impressed! The GPS is a super bit of kit but it does not evoke the simplicity and silk scarf appeal of the old mechanical unit!

AB,

Sort out the more valuable/rare looking for ebay first. Then
you could set up a stall for the rest at one of the aerojumbles; they're advertised in Aeroplane mag & such.
I'm thinking of doing it but the missus reckons I'd buy/bring home more "junk" than I'd sell.:(

Before you sell them, have a look through to see how much has made it into the latest editions of the ACPs :)
I know that some of the drawings in Airframes have been around since before the days of the wee blue covered editions.

I'd try to keep one copy of each for posterity, but then I don't tend to chuck much out!

Drop me an e-mail if you want a rough idea what any technical manuals etc are worth. I've got a pretty large database of AP's and manuals.

Thanks for the advice so far. I'll get a couple of the cadets to catalogue them next week, so I've a better idea of what we've got. I know there are several Tee Emms (these seem to go on Ebay for between £5 and £35) and some spotter-type magazines. Ebay would be the easiest place to go, but I wasn't sure whether there is another, more specialist site, where we might get more.

Ex-Oggie - thanks, I'll get back to you.

Ooops....thanks, thought the e-mail had been quite recently! I'll fix that.

A.P.2662 is Standard Repairs for Airframes IIRC, which volume are you after? 2662A? I'll have a shuftie and see what I have in my collection.
