From Google groups:

The duelling of the A505 into the airport should now start some time in 2005. Once complete there will be a continuous dual carriageway from the Ibis roundabout all the way to the M1. The roundabout at the Ibis will be replaced by a super sized roundabout that will eat into the midterm car park. From there the road will sweep through the car park to a flyover by the 08 approach lights where it will connect with the existing road. This road will be upgraded to a dual carriageway with new bridges crossing the railway line and the Wheathampsted Road.

The existing roundabout for the airport railway station and retail park will be replaced with traffic lights with a no right hand turn for traffic coming from the airport. Airport shuttle busses will use a new bus only link road to the station while cars will have to take the long route via Kimpton road.

It can't come a moment too soon.

The next project on surface access has to be an improved link to the A1/A1(M).

If you add the road works leading from Jct 10 M1 to the airport, the new proposed football ground and retail park at Jct 10, and then the widening of the M1 between the M25 and M1 Jct 11, life in a car is going to be nasty in the vicinity of the airport!

I was under the impression that construction works were due to start at the end of October/early November this year. Is it being delayed by a few months because of a Public Inquiry or something ?.

Never mind the roads - give me more runway! (And while you're at it cut down all the trees and level the cliff so that we don't get that windshear on a calm day), agh, Luton on a summers day!:8

The original East Luton Corridor improvement scheme included a proposal to improve Junction 10A which is the end of the M1 junction 10 spur road. This will now not take place as plans were already submitted to expand the M1 to 4 lanes. This work will also start in 2005. The M1 plan showed junction 10A as unchanged which went through a public enquiry. Only when the M1 is expanded can work start to improve junction 10A.
