Transaero are said to be so delighted with bookings for their new direct Edinburgh - Moscow service that they are considering upgrading the route; before they have even began to start flying.

The airline had originally planned to operate a once weekly service, flying on a wednesday with a 737-700. However all flights in August, during Edinburghs fringe festival, have already sold out, and availability on other flights is already very limited. The airline yesterday announced that it would introduce 2 extra weekly flights, operating on Mondays and Fridays. An airline spokesman, commented:

"We are absolutely delighted with the takeup of our new Edinburgh - Moscow service. We had anticipated the demand to be high, but not as high as this. Moscow is proving to be a very popular weekend holiday destination, and our new Monday and Friday flights will make it even more accessible from Edinburgh."

Transaero have saw demand for their international flights increase rapidly in recent years, and are struggling to provide capacity to meet demand. The airline is believed to be in talks with Antonov regarding the aquisition of passenger configured AN124's. Antonov's Public Relations officer, Aprayael Foyalskiey refused to comment on any negotiations with Transaero, but did comment on the possibility of a passenger AN124:

"We looked at producing a passenger version of the aircraft many decades ago, but decided the project would be unfeasable. However much has changed since then, and the technology is now available to produce a more efficient AN124 with the ability to carry passengers."

If transaero where to aquire AN124's, it is believed they would be configured with two floors for passengers, capable of occomodating up to 800 people. Enough room would then be available for cargo storage.

Edinburgh would likely be one of the first destinations to recieve the AN124, where demand for transportation of Vodka, Whisky and Irn-Bru into and out of Scotland would cover almost 75% of operating costs.
