Years ago (early 90s) there was a tv prog that profiled King and shadowed him during a typical working week or two. Showed him at home, office etc.

Any of you chaps suggest how I can get a copy on video or dvd? I have no idea where to start, short of trying to contact ITV/Carlton/Granada/whatever they're called these days...

There was a BA docu-series called "Airline" that profiled the entire BA operation. Broadcast in 1990.

Episode 1 discussed operations, focusing on a BA crew operating a LHR-BKK-SYD service. Episode 2, "King's Way", profiled Lord King. Episode 3, IIRC "Born to win" covered customer service ethos and the final episode "Sky Wars" was about BA's desire to break into the American market and focused on airline business in general, such as liberalisation etc.

I've got all the episodes on video somewhere.

Excellent news BahrainLad. Now, can I prise them away from you and make some copies? Send me a PM if you're willing to entertain a little negotiation!!

It always seemed to me that Marshall was the guy doing all the effective work.

Once saw King on a TV programme, where he was pitted against some expert.

Expert one side of the stage.

King other side of stage, sat in front of several of his managers.

The answer to any question put to King was immediately delegated by King to the relevant manager. I can't recall him answering one question himself ! :*

I also recall the story of how an aeroplane was shuttled between Scotland and London......to deliver King's dog to him.

Hmmm....dunno about that, in King episode in said series there's a magnificent bit when he totally dumps on the interviewer......

(discussing the BA/BCal takeover)

Interviewer: "There was a rumour at the time that you threatened to resign."
King: "I did not. I did not. And if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. I was asked if I would resign. And I said, "I accept resignations, I don't offer them.""
Interviewer:..........speechless!

Flat Spin, sorry mate, half of the episodes are in London and the other in Bahrain. I'm nowhere near either at the moment. But I'll see what I can do for you.

Remember it well.

There was a scene in which King put the phone down and said to the interviewer, "see I have just bought a 747."

This was at the time that high life 747s had been found with cracks developing in the 'section 41' fuselage area. The aircraft 'bought' by king was a replacement to fill the gaps while the fleet was modded, beauty of it was that the 747 he purchased was ex MEA and was twice as bad as the rest of the fleet and cost the company a bomb from then on.:O

Also, there was a documentary called I think " A tale of two jumbos" which followed one BA aircraft travelling around the world and another on maintenance back in the hangar. I did have it until my first wife recorded over it. :*

I remember the Airline series in the early 90's.

Had them on vid too, but don't recall King appearing in it much, Marshall was in it moreso than King.

It was a BBC2 doc if that helps eliminate it from your enquiries................
