What a great day it was!! 50+ mile viz and vertical windsocks.

I met up with some mates over the Thames, went down to Eastbourne, along the cliffs and into Shoreham. Then we went over to Bembridge for lunch (should have had it at Shoreham).

We saw a nuclear sub in the Solent. I was stunned as to how big they are. The conning tower must have been 10 storeys high. It dwarfed the ferry that passed by.

Damn cold, but a great day's flying.

Was going to, couldn't escape work early enough. Today wasn't nearly as nice.

Are you sure? Here's a T-class boat, with sailors for comparison... 20-30 foot i'd guess

I managed a 90min flight in a rented plane (mine is still on the ground after 2 weeks having some avionics work).

Vis was fantastic and silky smooth. Some of the best flying always comes after a patch of bad weather in the winter.

Well worth the effort.

I flew from Thruxton down to Bournemouth and back in an R22 - no wind correction to speak of, and superb viz.

And best of all - no buqqering about going round Boscombe / Middle Wallop - asking nicely got a transit through the ATZ . . .

And tomorrow I get to go to Shoreham and repeat the exercise :D

From Wycombe to Barton (no cloud as far as East Mids) and then back via Snowdon which unfortunately stuck its head in the cloud just as we were planning to fly past it. Back on top of cloud (FL50) as far as Shobdon and then a lovely evening. Not many people about in that part of the sky.

PS Good food at Barton clubhouse and good value.

Nice flight from the farm to Sandown for the obligatory bacon sarnie and back. Lots of people around, both in to Sandown and Bembridge. Ideal winter flying day.

A friend thinks it would have been HMS Vegeance. Not 10 storeys tall, but a massive sub all the same.

Pictures of HMS Vengeance (http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/static/pages/4183.html)

Out of interest, there is the wreck of a small German sub on the northern shore of the Medway. Its just SE of Dam Head Creek power station. Its visible at low tide.

bar shaker - like you flew from Shoreham to Bembridge. Lovely day, calm and good viz. Were you in the Propellor Inn at the same time as Mrs PC and me? Cr*p food and slow service. :-(

Lots of microlights and a couple of Yaks as well there.

Fun and games back at Shoreham with some chap calling a PanPan 2000 feet above the airfield. Hope he was alright....

So didn't anyone go flying on Sunday then?! What's wrong with 40kt winds?

;)

Yes, that was us. We sat at the end of the bar. I hope we weren't too noisy. :O

If it was your wife doing the radio, and you had diverted from Goodwood, you landed just before me.

I agree about the food, awful. We went there on Centenary Day and the food/service was much better. I had the worst bacon sandwich I've ever had and my friend had to send back his spotty dick. Shame, as it could be a great venue. How one person can expect to run the bar and cook for a twenty people amazes me.

If I was going to have a PAN, 2000ft above Shoreham would be high on my list of places for it to happen ;)
