HM Coastguard's Islander based out of Manston is crewed by pilots from Atlantic Reconnaissance Ltd - part of the Atlantic Air Group, Coventry.

Alternatively their S61's are operated by bristows from various bases around the UK.

Atlantic also operate the coastguard agency's patrol flights using C404/C406 equiped with SLAR, IR/UV cameras, video / still cameras etc etc etc.

The guys who operate the Islander are responsible for identification of vessels as part of Dover's Channel Navigation Information Service.

On top of this they can also be tasked for Search and Rescue, Pollution Control / Surveillence, PR and other roles which you don't need to know about!

Hope this answers your Q
