Can anyone tell me how I can successfully copy music from an audio cassette to CD ROM? Can I plug it into my mic port and if so what do I record it with? Any help gratefully received.

Don't use the mic input as you won't get a very good result (if at all).

You'll need a lead consisting of a pair of phono connectors at one end and a stereo mini jack at the other. The phono plugs connect to the output (L & R) of the recorder, and the mini-jack connects to the line-in connector on the sound card.

You may need to experiment with setting the recording level on the sound card to ensure that you have enough volume, without getting so much that the signal distorts.

And that's it. Even the most basic soundcard has some editing capability so that you should be able to edit out any mistakes or silences before saving the file back to a cd.

Best of luck!

DF, I've recently digitised all of my old LPs just using my laptop and it's standard mic/line-in input. No problems there, the quality is excellent, you just have to make sure the input gain is set properly which will take a little tweaking but in the end, the results are very good. The software I used was just some very basic audio recording shareware (Audiocorder).
