Classic Freighter Commands.

I have had trouble understanding why so many seemingly good command candidates get nailed by the "star chamber" in recent times. Most nailed during, a couple after and many even before, the Classic Freighter Command Course.

Therefore, should I be surprised when GMA announces that because of the lack of suitable command applicants, special one year contracts shall be offered to mainline retirees. Could these retirees be members of the said star chamber or good buddies thereof? I wonder what pay band (A,B or C) these special contracts will be on. I wonder what seniority they will hold? Should it be the contracts are on "C" scale, I wonder if any previous years of service will be taken into account when determining pay bands?

Is this deje vu all over again :O :O :8

So many questions; so few answers......
Yours cynically,

Dont often concur with you LG.....but this time I do.
From the off this Classic command failure rate has looked 'ify'.
One does indeed wonder!

On the plus side - great news about the 5 weeks Xmas bonus! (Only to those who supported SLS). So, let me see...... I got 4 weeks unpaid leave (which is priceless really) and now they give me 5 weeks pay. Happy with that!

Off course a cynic would say, SLS was unnecessary and therefore with the 13th month we in fact lost 2 weeks pay......... but, then, how much do you value time off? Is the cup half empty or half full?

Merry Xmas to all at CX.

Felix,

Well done on getting 4 weeks SLS!!!

Given the audience on this forum, to call the bonus 5 weeks pay is perhaps an overstatement. That said, being a mancunian socialist at heart, I support the company's handling of the SARs/SLS challenge. Whilst I understand the arguments of those who disagree, I cannot help but conclude they argue from a position of hindsight or self interest or both.

I think that you might find be a simpler answer to the failure of the Command candidates. But, I agree the timing is very suspect.

This would have been due to you as four weeks (13th month) pay in any case.

Looking the gift horse in the mouth, one might say that it an interesting slight of hand (or packaging as they call it). They give a bonus in lieu of the 13th month pay. They get the credit for giving back your SLS donation.
