Hi,
Does any one have any details of a good Aviation Insurance company.
I have tried one company who took over 3 months to give me a quote which turned out to be 150% higher than they originally quoted.
Many Thanks
Sloany

why does it have to be Aviation insurance if your just trying to get life assurance?
There are loads of good insurers out there,if you are doing ppl flying you do need to declare this as some wont insure you and some will load the policy premium accordingly.
I have just used Direct Line for an online quote, they are the cheapest for me and easiest to use.

direct Line gave me 100k for about £16 a month including flying, skydiving and scuba diving. I am 45 and don't smoke - not unless I am going low - Doh !

If you want life insurance then the normal process is that an ordinary life insurance company sends you an "aviation questionnaire". Provided you fill in sane answers you get cover at normal rates.

Hint: sane answers include "I only rent aircraft from proper flying clubs and follow their rules". Insane answers might include things like "I fly my own microlight from my own land and regularly practise aerobatics at 200' in fog whilst high on <insert drug of your choice>".

I disagree about sane answers! My existing Life assurance company decided to treble my premium after I filled in their aviation questionnaire so I went for a specialist broker who got me 100k at a cheaper rate than my (non flying) girlfriend!! I only fly 150 / PA28 from proper clubs too! Check the flying mags as they generously gave me a subscription to one of those into the bargain!

Most of the larger insurers (e.g. L&G) won't load the premium if you fly under 100hrs/year as a private pilot (no commercial work).

There are some specialised life insurance brokers advertising in the back of the UK aviation mags who claim to have negotiated special deals but in reality they just take advantage of the above.

It is said that if AFTER having taken up the cover you then start flying say 500hrs/year the cover remains valid but I would guess, in line with normal insurance full-disclosure rules, if there is a claim and they choose to look at your logbook and find you were flying 200hrs/year at the time of the application, they will probably try to walk away from it completely (as they can under UK insurance law). The same comment would apply to e.g. risky sports taken up after starting the insurance; you remain covered, if something is not specifically excluded then it is included.

I tried several of the large companies, and all loaded the premium by close to 100% because I declared 40 hours a year in a PA-28. Sovereign sorted out insurance with no loading, no problems - £250k dual cover ended up at £24/pm - £20/pm cheaper than any other quote. Recommended. :ok:

(oh, and I ended up at a company that had initially provided a loaded quote  )

I got 100K for £16/month from Legal and General. Had to fill in a 'dangerous pursuits' questionnaire.

Mine is with L&G too - when I asked for a quote direct they sent me the 'dangerous pursuits' questionaire and then doubled my premium :( so I said thanks but no thanks, and went via the IFA ... who arranged it with the same lot without the loading

My existing Life assurance company decided to treble my premium after I filled in their aviation questionnaire Ah, well, you should try Equitable Life then, they aren't charging me any extra ... :D :D :D :D :D

Thanks for all of the responses.
The company/ broker I tried was in the back of one of the flying magazines who did offer a subsription as incentive, but on a sum to be covered of 60000, 26 pounds a month quote was just a little high (especially as they quoted 10 originally!).
It just bemuses me when companies do this especially when you are clear to them what your situation is from the outset, unfortunately thats the way some people do business.
I will try some of the new leads and hope they come back with a more agreable quote.
Thanks again.
