I'm thinking of a trip to Florida next year - the usual Disney stuff et al with the family.......

But.........

Anyone know where you can rent/fly a taildragger out in FL ? Cub, Aeronca, Stearman stuff all OK

I'm a current taildragger pilot so hopefully just a checkout and away (I have an FAA Cert as well as a JAR PPL)

Reasonable distance inside FL no object - might even fly there in a trike thing rented from Kissimee.

Any help/leads gratefully accepted

I understand that this place (http://www.flytailwheel.com/) has a Stearman and a J-3 available for instruction in Florida during the winter months ... dual only, though (sorry!). :(

This place (http://www.fftc.info/news.asp?story=102) in Venice apparently has a Super Decathalon available year-round; and this other place (http://www.international-flighttraining.com/PLANES/tailwheel.htm) at New Smyrna Beach rents a Champ for US$50.

And in the background of one of the pics from the last link there appears to be a Chipmunk in RAF colours. Private or available for rent anybody??

I don't know but I suspect that the Chipmunk that your keen eyes have spotted is NX458BG, which is currently for sale in Florida at $US59,500. Here are some pics that I found on the 'net: airborne (http://www.flyboytrader.com/userpics/082903101242A.JPG), right front (http://www.flyboytrader.com/userpics/082903102534B.JPG), engine (http://www.flyboytrader.com/userpics/082903102717C.JPG) and right side (http://www.flyboytrader.com/userpics/082903103901D.JPG).

If you can come across as a serious purchaser, probably you could arrange for a test ride!;)

MLS12D - thanks for the links - good to see a real plane has made it back to somewhere close to its roots! Was having a close look at the engine picture - IIRC, the shotgun starter was in the starboard bay, wasn't it, so don't think that the piccie confirms whether or not the electric start AD has been implemented (which I expect was a UK only AD). Just out of interest, but wondered if someone more current / experienced on Chippies than me could tell (last time I had my head under the bonnet of a Chippie was around 1993 :) )?

If this it the same chippy that was based at Ormond Beach a few years ago, it didn't even have a working radio let alone a starter.

I was over there getting some Pa44 time and the chippy was about doing it's own thing omong the training cessna's, weaving like a grass snake, not talking to anyone. Not much fun at a crowded place like OMN.
