I was very sceptical when I first heard this but I see they have convenient connections to Iraq and Sudan so now I'm only quite sceptical.

Seems to be 4x a week T,F,S,S
Another nice gain for STN but it is up against Ryanair.

Absolutely...Make that the 3rd airline signed up by MAG in less than 2 months...Maybe a Greek airline will appeal to their own populous somewhat & any possible onward connections could be a possible advantage too with regard RYR on the same route....

Can't seem to find much scope on Air Mediterranean? No wiki page?

Are they new? Any ideas on aircraft and timings?

Thanks Canberra. Any idea what 737 they use? I've seen pics of 400's on line. Nothing in Wiki about them but they appear to be pretty new. The Stansted twitter feed doesn't mention them. Maybe due to caution them being a non event?

A320.b744 13th Sep 2017 17:02

They've got two (rather old) B734s; SX-MAH and SX-MAI which are both 27 years old and in 167Y configuration.

AirportPlanner1 13th Sep 2017 17:20

With information so limited its hard to say what their intentions are. I'm inclined to see this more as an Iraq service as I can't see how an unknown airline with minimal web presence and a geriatric fleet has any chance of successfully competing on such a low frequency against FR in their backyard. The fares to Baghdad and Erbil seem quite competitive, and connections seem convenient.

Falcon666 13th Sep 2017 17:44

Seem to remember a couple of years back that Atlasglobal were intending to operate Erbil on their flights into LTN via IST.
They never started but I don't know if that is still bookable.Would be a more established alternative with newer a/c.

Don't Pegasus/FlyPGS offer this? I could be wrong but I'm sure I've seen it.

canberra97 13th Sep 2017 21:22

pamann

Pegasus do operate connections from Erbil to London Stansted via Istanbul

03.15 depart Erbil
via Istanbul
11.15 arrive London Stansted

I think this is a daily connection.

Posted by Avgeek in Alitalia thread

Alitalia are withdrawing from London Heathrow and moving all flights to London Stansted, effective March 2018

Any truth ?

LTNman 18th Sep 2017 20:03

Great win if true

leadinghand 18th Sep 2017 20:21

i thought MOL was in the process of buying Alitalia.

inOban 18th Sep 2017 20:31

Whoever buys it, it won't exist by march 18, surely.

pamann 18th Sep 2017 21:02

Wasn't there some wind on the LTN thread a good few months back where someone was convinced they had it in good knowledge that a European based legacy carrier was about to up sticks and move its ops to LTN? Could this be what they were on about, even if it is up the road in Essex?

I'd love to say I wish them all the luck, but it didn't work for SK who sold their LHR/GOT slots and shifted the route north of the Thames and it failed.

Don't even mention CY who gave up on LHR and then went bust.

Is there really any chance in AZ? Third airline lucky? I doubt it.

BCALBOY 18th Sep 2017 21:13

So far as I am aware ,the slots that Alitalia currently use at LHR are leased from Etihad ,who purchased the slots from AZ in return for a lifeline €60m .

Perhaps if AZ is being sold off , Etihad want to claim the slots so they can
sell them off and recoup some of their failed investment.

This would mean that AZ or successor would have no option other than relocating to another London airport.

daz211 18th Sep 2017 21:24

It seems a strange choice to me STN / FR have direct flights to many Italian airports I don't see any airline standing strong on any Italian routes against FR all we would see is £4.99 fares.

Unless behind the scenes something is going on between AZ and FR.
