More US Air layoffs

Not like we need any more rotten news...but I thought I'd be a stinker and post this item....

US Airways cuts 2,500 more jobs

Layoffs to occur over next 3 months in continuing effort to reduce costs.
November 26, 2002: 12:37 PM EST

ARLINGTON, Va. (Reuters) - US Airways Group, which is operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, said Tuesday it will furlough another 2,500 workers over the next three months as it looks for new ways to cut costs.

The airline said it has begun meeting with its unions to talk about possible changes in work rules and other measures that could slash costs further while adhering to certain protections it gave its workers when they signed cheaper contracts.

The furloughs, which US Airways said will affect all of its work groups, come on top of $1.3 billion in annual cost savings already secured by the airline as it restructures.
