Vatry

Small French airport, about 160 km by road east of Paris in the middle of a very rural area

In 2016, it had TUI flying to Corsica, Malaga and Nice (all dropped in 2017)
One of its main passenger airlines, Atlas Atlantique has just had its AOC suspended (yes I know suspended means it is temporary but AOC suspension is a serious matter).
The only other passenger airline is Ryanair flying 1x weekly to Marrakech and 2x weekly to Porto

There are also 13 departing charter flights during summer 2018 (9 destinations each served on either one or two dates during the summer season)

As somewhere within mainland France, I can't see a justification for any kind of PSO operation or other social need to keep passenger flights at the airport. Operating the infrastructure needed for passenger flights doesn't come cheap - how much longer will both the local Govt departement who own Vatry airport pay for the airport and the French Govt continue to provide ATC ? Govt subsidy in 2016 was 3.5 million euros. We've already seen at Angers airport that the French are capable of making tough decisions when necessary

When I went there a few years ago, it seemed to be more of a cargo centre. Has that changed? It's certainly remote!

Great place.
I flew in there from Jo’burg doing charter/cargo ops 10 years ago.
Refreshing to use an airport without crowds and traffic jams.
Small town nearby with excellent food and cold beer.
French country side at its best.

Are Avient / AVCargo still around? They had a bit of a hub/operation there.

Avient:Them Are the guys I flew for on a wet lease contract based in Vatry.
