PIA Faces Closure

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/w...debt-zq8qfs5ft

"Pakistan’s government is seeking to have the country’s beleaguered airline, once a symbol of national pride, declared bankrupt and shut down after a series of scandals and spiralling debts.

After a number of incidents, which included heroin being seized on a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane at Heathrow and a pilot found asleep in business class with a trainee at the controls, Nawaz Sharif, the prime minister, wants to put the airline out of its misery.

PIA is mired in corruption scandals and debt, and burdened by an ageing fleet of aircraft that has raised safety concerns. Having once tried to privatise PIA to save it, a plan that was blocked by parliament, Mr Sharif now seems ready to throw in the towel......"
