On the bright side... If MAN does work, then what else can? Belfast and Edinburgh too I should think?

Thomas Cook have transferred MAN-JFK to a year round route.

Previously it ended in November and restarted in March, but now has 3 weekly flights in the winter, on Mon/Thu/Sat. This means MAN-JFK is now 6 weekly overall, sometimes 7 weekly with a higher overall capacity compared to the daily B757 or 5 weekly B767 of last winter, so at least some order has been restored.

LAX, are you sure about last winter? I thought they ran JFK at 3 x weekly until the New Year and then it suspended until Easter. I could be wrong but sure there were JFK flights over Christmas and New Year.

Roverman,

The flights to JFK ended in November, and had one or 2 flights around Christmas and new year only, before resuming in April.

This time, the flights remain at a constant 3, sometimes 4 weekly all winter.

Even TCX in a press release have confirmed this is new.

Thanks LAX. We were commenting not long ago on how the MAN-North Atlantic growth looked to be unravelling in the wake of Brexit and Trump, with some trimming back of programmes by VS and AA (again). But with the recent announcements by TCX for this winter and next summer it's not looking half so bad.

Yes it's great that some balance has been restored.

While Atlanta will remain well down on the last winter, it seems JFK will now actually see a higher capacity than last winter.

The one shining gem across the pond seems to be Houston. It's now carrying well over 100 pax per flight and that number is growing each month. Who knew there was such demand for what I class as quite a niche route, seems to get a fair few on other forums scratching their heads as to where the traffic is coming from! I believe it's now heading into figures that are higher all round than the old Moscow stop.

There's seems to be a fair few numbers connecting from IAH onto Flybe's Scottish routes, especially ABZ for obvious Oil related industries.

Especially considering there are no code shares at all on the MAN-IAH sector, it is sold as a standalone SQ flight number. Just goes to show that if you provide a decent product across the pond and promote it, people will use it.

Could it be that SIA and VIR are taking the pax willing to pay a little more for a better product, and TCX are taking those where low ticket price is everything, hurting the US carriers with their inferior product and high prices? Just a thought

It's clear the new weekend base by BA Cityflyer is a year round operation, as the LCY flights have just been made bookable.

BA7310 LCY 2030 MAN 2130 Fri
BA7311 MAN 1330 LCY 1430 Mon

Can't see which routes BA will be doing yet, but great news.

LCY ranges from about half to 3/4 full on average. for a 1 weekly in and 2 weekly out, I suppose it's the best is can be really.

The LCY averages between 30 - 45 per flight, so less than half.

Since this is really a positioning sector being offered for opportunity sale I think the load factors are quite acceptable.

MAN TP is really starting to take shape across T2 now, quite surprised at the speed its progressing. Area 7 has already been ripped up ready for the next stage

Do we have any feel for some of the transfer numbers within the U.K. (Eg ABZ) and within Europe (e.g. MUC, LIS).

SQ to Houston

This route is really flying now. 168 pax joined at MAN on today's SQ52, 16 of them off connecting flights. Just 50-odd others transiting through from SIN to IAH. The aircraft has 253 seats so MAN is providing the bulk of traffic on this route.

Are there no flights between SIN and IAH flying eastwards? Which, unless my geography is gone wrong, is shorter.
