What about the other two?
Peel also own Liverpool and Doncaster airports. I believe that both of these are losing significantly more money than Teesside. Liverpool having lost traffic recently. Doncaster is a lot quieter than Teesside. Do we hear constant threats of these closing?
Regarding the pensions. The LGPS was closed to new members from the airport when Peel took over. The staff affected by this threat have all been at the airport since before then.
Great reward for their loyalty!

Check your facts please - LPL traffic increased by an average of 8% per month for the last couple of months with over 431,000 passengers using the airport in August alone. Flybe have just introduced 3X daily to AMS in competition with EZ, and daily service the EDI. Veuling will start flights from LPL to BCN next year. Loads on Blue's new flights to Romania are reported to be good. Doesn't sound like much of a downturn to me!

Well Leeds Approach I can name at least four aviation companies that are happy working at DTVA, I "might" work for one of them but that's not for you to know. If you look at the DTVA movements site business has been very good today with a number of high calibre executive visitors, visitors which actually generate income.
Latest from the barrons rag
Councils expected to pass pension plans after "cast iron guarantee" on future of Durham Tees Valley airport (From Darlington and Stockton Times)
Auld Dorris is very quiet these days.

Airport closed
wonder if this is a sign of things to come? Latest notams showing lots of airport closures over next couple of days due staff shortages.
Wonder if any goodwill Peel had with the staff has started to drop away after the pension announcements?? Who can Blame them??
Figures for August down again with a small increase for KLM.
Movements also down.

Passenger Tax
reading on another thread that Newquay are scrapping the Ģ5 passenger departure tax...now there's a good idea!!
Wonder if Peel will follow the example...might bring back some much needed good will and much needed passengers.Remember that was one of the reasons Ryanair cited for pulling out.

Presumably NQY are trying to attract attract airlines, new routes, keeping cost to pax as competitive as possible.
Currently unsure what DTV are trying to attract.................

Beafer..your problem is you are too cynical.....or a sooth sayer( fortune teller,if I didn't spell that right)
It's going to be an interesting few months..the pressure is on all airports inc.our neighbours up the road..cost cutting at all levels...never mind Joe Public and their safety!! the Sh...t. Will hit the fan one day??

Will anything ever happen over a period of months these days? We were just talking about Wilkinson's Pa 34 which has been sat rotting for the past two to three years, its only going to be fit for scrap.

There are times when it is easy to see as to why your comments are seen to be of little value on this thread.
I empathise with much that you post, however on this one I think you are simply looking for issues to add to concerns.
Accepted AF - KL are part of same group, but on this one the AF subsidiary/division who are the subject of the article don't fly from DTV & secondly the article addresses cost cutting of long haul routes / aircraft.
I would not make any connection in assuming that KL's position at DTV precarious or otherwise has any relevance to this article.
Maybe just a bit more mischief making on your part ??

Hard to compare the KLM business as NCL with MME as they run totally different planes, different customer types and we have no idea of what the landing fees are.
However on short haul European flights booked with under 2 weeks notice (business people don't generally book far in advance) in my experience are generally twice the price from MME than for NCL. If you book 6 months out, the prices are the same.
I flew into MME twice last week (Tuesday and Sunday evenings) and both flights were virtually full. Friday morning had about 45 people on it (the plane holds about 66 people with the normal configuration). My guess would be that the passenger yield is strong on this route.
The F70 holds less people than a 737 (which is the main plane on the NCL route) but the Fokker needs less crew and probably is fully depreciated by now. Combined with what must be very strong yields, I would imagine the route is pretty strong for KLM. Remember at NCL and LBA they have to compete with BA and others for feed into a hub.

KLM
Remember a while ago it's was mooted that Transavia were to take over a lot of KLM routes..did it ever happen?
More of concern here would be if/ when the the Fokker 70's start the retirement process...could the route sustain or warrant 3 daily EMB's ?

Transavia currently seem to run a lot of bucket and spade routes (PMI, IBZ, AGP) and some popular citybreak places (BCN, PSA). I don't think they do anything what would be classed a traditional business route at the moment. I think they only currently operate 737s - a big challenge for Teesside to fill 3x daily.
KLM would be better selling some slots at LHR - they are doing 10 flights a day (6 x 737, 3 x F70, 1 x E190) - I am staggered that they can make this stack up with the smaller planes. Two of the F70 flights depart 10 minutes from each other!
