The deal by AENA to purchase the operating concession from Abertis seems to taking some time to complete, and in the meatime, everything seems to be in limbo. Hopefully this can take place by the year end, so regeneration of the airport can start to move forward.

I actually saw it yesterday, Didnt look out of place.. Not as huge as I expected, Is it actually smaller length wise then a 767-300ER? Maybe I caught it at the wrong angle.. was just driving through.
I just expect more and more Wizz flights rather then any smart wings/csa etc etc
The lack of any sign of expansion still at LHR with the constraints of LGW also it will be inevitable we get more stuff, Smaller airlines who cant afford the fees or Airlines that have no real necessity to be operating from those airports. The problem will be fighting off STN with its new owners who seem to be focusing on bringing in new airlines asap.
I was looking at the arrivals/departures over the summer and then again this winter and notice on many days there are sometimes over an hour and a half or more with no single airline movements, Surely if London Heathrow is "bursting at it seems" we should be encouraging these "new flights" into LTN even if it is only short term.
I wish our new owners would be up and underway with expansion and attracting new business but I know it takes time. We did get Carpatair and Tarom recently so I guess thats something.

This isn't really Luton news, but I notice EL AL have announced they are launching a new low cost carrier called "UP" and switching a few 737-800's to the new airline.
In the press release a number of routes are being switched to the Low Cost operation... Luton isn't mentioned, but makes me wonder if it could be switched going forward.
Does anyone know if EL AL offer First or Business traffic on the LTN-TLV routes and if so, how does this cabin perform? Luton as an airport, isn't really renowned for premium traffic on scheduled services and more value for money. I'm just wondering if we could see EL AL switch this route to the Low Cost airline in time? It would position them better to compete with easyJet.
Going by how the 767's are currently configured they wouldn't loose much capacity, switching to a high density 737-800...

It says in the article popular "business routes" including London and Frankfurt will not be changed from "ELAL". I guess thats a no.
The "up" model with the new livery seems to be a 777 also.. odd they didnt choose a 738 since they plan on using 5 of them for this operation. The livery is horrendous lol but at least it has some "colour" to it.

Up 777?
"El Al will use Boeing 737-800s for Up. Each plane will have two classes: Tourist Plus with 36 seats and 34 inches between seats, food, beverages, a blanket and pillow; and Tourist with 144 seats and 30 inches between seats, food and beverages for extra payment, and a blanket for payment."
Suppose Luton might see new 737-900ER soon.

787, yes, first visit. If the trails today worked then expect them all through in time for checks.
Yes it did fit OK!
Don't forget the first scheduled 787 Check in H61 is not until this time next year.....

I know this is slightly off topic, but "Up" is supposedly a low cost operation - doesn't look like it for me.
I know you can make all the mod cons work in practice to an extent, however Southwest, easyJet an Ryanair prove that you needn't spend the additional cost. It is a proven model, pioneered by Kelleher in the 1970s and that part of the industry never looked back.
£100 (plus £20 to reserve a seat and take hold luggage) to Larnaca for 1-hours flying. That is a ridiculous price compared to the competition from Aegean, Arkia and Cyprus Airways on that route, which must be one of the most popular at Ben Gurion.

Up
From the Jerusalem Post:
"El Al on Tuesday announced the launch of its own low-cost carrier Up, which will begin flying to five European destinations as of March 30.
The carrier will offer up to 11 weekly flights to and from Tel Aviv and Berlin, Prague, Kiev and Budapest, and up to 6 weekly Larnaca flights. The former three will be priced starting at $99 each way, and the latter two starting at $69."
So not Luton, then.

So not Luton, then.
But with EL AL now opening a Low Cost Carrier, it could well become a route going forward and equip them better to compete directly with easyJet and just keep Heathrow operating with the full service EL AL.
That was all I was suggesting.

Super Mosque for Luton now LBC are 'minted'!
No doubt this post will be banned, but judging by previous 'Love Luton' type campaigns......!
So, an airport operator owned at the moment by a financially broken Spanish Government takes the Luton airport concession over using money from a 'French' insurance firm primarily owned by US/GB investors.?
Well at least they paid a reasonable fee for the concession. One would hope that AXAAENA or AENAAXA will now plough money into the tinminal and the infrastructure to take Luton forward?
I did hear the term 'Lalleford Mosque' being used. Rumour as always!
Positive news compared to the price MAG paid for Stansted. Should MAG wish to create Runway 2, going to cost them loads for the land that BAA acquired, then sold off!

AENA must be a Cash Cow for the Spanish Govenment. The investers, like any company will want to maximise their investment, lets hope it is 'watch this space'. They are grown up boys who will know what needs to be done and plans must have been put in place already.
