Don't you mean Signature's new hangar? Yes it does dominate the skyline from Wigmore but it has also been pointed out that it acts as a sound barrier and is better at keeping the sound down than the 12ft wooden fence it has replaced.

And to be honest - what could the residents of Wigmore have seen in that direction before? A pier and a bit of taxiway? Not all that exciting... although bloody planning permission laws are a bugbear of mine at the moment!
Money talks and Signature/Magec/Lynton/Mc'Alpine have been a good cash generator for the airport for decades!
Also, don't forget this is all part of the airports plan to get the Ponderosa back once the new Signature FBO area is built on the demolished original hangars!

I still dont get the "pond" and its future use, Why the airport is so obsessed with putting it into use for the Airlines rather then execs. Are they going to bus people back and fourth across the taxiways all day long, All the handling vehicles and fuel trucks clogging up the taxiway 24/7 for what could be about 2 stands?
Then there will be the mess of Signature towing its planes back and fourth from one side of the airport to the other all day long clogging up the taxiways. Am I over thinking this and missing the point or will it be a big mess?
It's already one of the worst organized airports in terms of layouts I have ever seen, Seem to be making it even more complicated.
Why dont they just start building upwards (car parks) and claim back huge amounts of wasted areas with nothing more then cars sitting on them. Meh..

They already bus passengers when late night arrivals use stands 10-15, same as Gatwick and other major airports. Use of the Pond extends this for the overnighters.
Signatures VVIP entry/exit point will be at the same place, it is only the based (hangared) aircraft which will move (as far as I can see). There is already lots of shuffling around overnight for the next days departures.
As for the layout, historical mis-managment from LBC.
A Multi-storey carpark is already in the latest masterplan.

Without access to the pond Signature would have to turn away business as the apron associated with their new FPO is only a fraction of the size of stands 16 and 17. It might well be the case that Signature continue to use the pond but the parking fees go to the airport instead of them.

I don´t see the problem runway 08 regarding the ´´pond´´ coming back into airline use. More stands - more income. As already stated buses are used for stands 10-15 and 1 right as well as 46, 47 and 48 plus the south stands. I personally have been bussed from gate 1 to stand 46 a couple of times. If my memory serves me correctly I can remember passengers being bussed from the aircraft run-up bay!
I know the layout is not great by any means but you have to go with what you have got and make the most of it.

Will there be a replacement for Istanbul as easyjets route ends on 28th march 2014

Read the "deferred" story a couple of days ago. It's hilarious when you read things like "watchdog warns there could be more flights" God forbid more money for the local area, More jobs.. Benefiting everyone in the long term. Planes are getting quieter, New houses get built with sound proof walls. Must the future of a large town go down the crapper because 60 or 70 retired rich ****s in Harpenden can't have a spot of tea in the middle of winter without hearing a plane engine.
As for the pond & signatures over the other side of the airport we will see in the long term, I still think it could turn out to be a mess that causes more hassle then good but its just an opinion & nothing more.
I see the low cost saudi airline Flynas wants to lease an A330 for "London" flights in 2014. Could LTN be a possibility? Dont get to excited.. Just throwing it out there.
