Work at either end of the south stands to expand the apron is now complete with the stands being marked up yesterday. The apron capacity has been increased from 4 to 6 stands.

The drop off zone has now reached its full length so work is just starting on completing the missing sections of pavement.

One of the two entrances is progressing

LLA

Fun and games in the bus station with long delays when this shuttle bus completely blocked the exit. Passengers to and from the station had to board the shuttle buses from the roundabout which brought the bus station to a standstill every time a shuttle bus appeared. All other buses had to leave via the entry route.

The good news is that yesterday both lifts to the short term car park were repaired after being out of action since before the last bank holiday. The bad news is that both lifts were broken again today just 24 hours later.

About 15 years ago, I attended a public meeting in Berkhamsted when the airport was realigning the approach paths. At the time, I lived under one of the main paths and there was going to be more traffic at that point. So I went to give my support for LTN, spoke about the many times I had used it for leisure and dozens of time for business. I said we needed the airport to do well.
I doesn't help that Hatfield closed being a big employer for Herts and a good number of BY and MON crew living in Herts. Perhaps everyone should be running 737-200, 720 & 1-11s again!!!

LTNman, are you saying the bedybus shuttles cannot easily use the road designed for them? or is this a temporary road?

Lucky they didn't buy cheap lifts for the heavy use car park ...

The bus station and all the roads associated with it are now complete. Shuttle buses have there own bus stop by the entrance so they don't have to reverse so I have no idea how that bus ended up in that position.

Considering 50,000 passengers lost on the Copenhagen route that is some growth achieved on a lot of other routes - Barcelona for example.

I see Wizz have taken up the early morning slot vacated by Transavia, no surprise there. Now 16 arrivals between 0655 and 0830. Could anyone explain why Wizz do not fly to Estonia ie Tallinn, just seems rather strange to be left off there network.

Having flown twice from LTN this week it was interesting that on returning we were deplaned on the Pond and the other flight on the new south stand. Does anyone know why EasyJet appear to have taken up these stands? Also has EasyJet brought in A/c 24?

I take it that you were on the last flights of the day for each aircraft and both aircraft were night stopping, which would explain why the aircraft parked where they did.

I could be wrong but I think stand 16 is still being used by Signature overnight so the pond parking must have been either stands 17,18, or 19. During the day Signature spread out onto the other stands.

Tel Aviv is Luton's ninth busiest route but now has 4 carriers flying the route. So who will cave in first?

There are also four airlines flying to Tenerife, and that is much further down the leaderboard...

Only a month for route proving before being LGW based, and not a 24th frame for LTN this year.

Just returned from flying in and out of Luton for the first time in a couple of years.

Going out we had a 0555 departure (ugh!), so no problems, dropped our bag off at the self service bag drop, which was easy and through security in 5 - 10 minutes. I dread to think what is would be like if you departed later. By the time we boarded at 0530 the departure lounge was heaving with not a chair in site and people sitting on floors everywhere.

Coming back last night was a breeze. Landed at 2320 and drove out the Mid-term car park at 2345. That was after parking on Stand 11, bussed to the terminal and collecting a bag. It was helped by knowing what goes on as opposed to a plane load of pax with airport brain! Most rushed off the a/c, whereas we were off nearly last, so last on the bus, therefore first off, which meant my son and I were first into the Immigration Hall! Crowds of people but no-one using the E-Passport machines. Bag arrived on the carosel at the same time as us, bus to the mid-term and home by 0015. 55 minutes from landing to getting into my front door, would have been quicker but for road works on the A505 between Stopsley and Hitchin!

With the terminal extension meant to open this month but with half of it still not even being started yet it is time for a little speculation why that might be.

The rear balcony of the original terminal frontage is the location of new plant that was installed last year. A large crane had to be used that was parked in the former bus station. Until the plant was installed the bus station infill could not take place.

The first photo below was taken in June last year and the second photo was taken yesterday. As can been seen in the second photo a section of ducting has been removed. In fact it has been missing for months. I was just wondering if there has been issues with the new plant and the terminal infill can't start again until it has been resolved due to a crane needing future access.

With 18 months now passed since the contractor took control of the site it is seeming more and more likely that the terminal expansion is turning into a 3 year protect as much of the existing terminal remodeling can't start until the terminal extension is fully open.
