I think SEN will be disappointed to see Wizz opening up at LGW as I believe they had hopes in that direction. Whether such hopes were based on anything more than wishful thinking I don't know.

I understand that the Transavia Orly route will continue over the winter timetable period and seats should go on sale next week.

They'd need a runway long enough to serve a packed A-320 (let alone an A-321) first.

No problem with the A320 payload on most, or all perhaps, of the potential Wizz routes from SEN.

Not quite, even the "extended" runway (1856 m) could be a performance issue in case of wet surface. 321 is not allowed at all.

You are correct in saying that the A321 is not a commercial option at SEN.

Wikipedia shows Air Nostrum starting a new route this summer to San Sebastian and quotes this article Nuevos vuelos a Londres y Mallorca desde el aeropuerto de Hondarribia . diariovasco.com

Good news that Air Nostrum (Iberia Express) are looking at ways to expand into new routes at Luton

For those not familiar with the re-generation plans for the town of Luton, you can find more info here including the Airport Enterprise Zone.

I think the San Sebastian route is possibly a case of Air Nostrum trying to be a bit inventive on the use of an aircraft. It seems to fly Palma Mallorca -> San Sebastian -> Luton -> San Sebastian -> Palma Mallorca on Tuesday and Thursday

San Sebastian would normally see 6 round trips per day to/from Madrid on a Tuesday or Thursday. In peak summer this drops to just 3 round trips per day - I imagine this is due to reduced business demand.

Assuming Air Nostrum have not left it too late to sell what would be a pair of very leisure-focussed routes, this might do ok, particularly given the experience of Luton-Vigo last year and San Sebastian's large beach and other tourist-focussed amenities. Be interesting to see whether it can capture some of the people who would otherwise fly to Biarritz or Bilbao

San Sebastian is an amazing destination, and the food is incredible. I can see that there should be a demand for this route....if it is marketed correctly.

A new area has been fenced off visible from Wigmore Park within the existing airport boundary to the East of the ever growing earth mountain!

Possibly to accommodate even more earth or to allow the existing pile to be moved!

I will have to investigate that latest area. In the last couple of months what looks like a temporary car park has been built airside on part of the existing mud pile and is surrounded by a low wooden fence. Apart from a camper van that has parked there a few times it hasn't been used.

Possible uses include another contractors compound, contractors parking or a temporary area where priority parking cars will be taken to for storage for the summer peak season.
