Thanks for the link Boeing 737-8.

So this winter there will be 8 flights a day to CPH - 4 each from Ryanair and easyJet. That's quite some schedule which presumably will catapult CPH close to the top of the list of most popular destinations at LTN.

I wonder if it might persuade either carrier to look at other routes in Scandinavaia? If there is that much demand for Copenhagen, why not Stockholm?

But is either airline making any money on this route as it might be more about forcing one of the airlines off the route?

When flights in November and December are £9.99 each way you wonder how each airline can make any money. When prices are this cheap, it's cheaper to go here than a train to London for the day.

As Ryanair now don't have Copenhagen based aircraft would their winter Luton service be by a Luton based aircraft?

Looking at Ryanair's website the first of the 4 daily winter flights to Copenhagen leaves Luton at 06.30, so definitely a Luton based aircraft.

But currently the 2 daily summer flights are operated by 1 Kaunas based aircraft (flying KUN - CPH - LTN - CPH - KUN - DUB - KUN) and 1 Luton based aircraft (flying LTN - TFS - LTN - CPH - LTN).

So the 4 winter flights may be operated by aircraft from different bases.

Through the winter also, the FR7403/4 is a KUN based aircraft doing a W through CPH.

It allows FR to continue serving an early morning flight into London without a base in CPH. Quite a clever bit of scheduling really.

The other three flights are LTN based, although the FR2679/8 does a W to CRL from CPH in-between.

Hope that helps.

Wow, respect for working that out...

The Ryanair schedule baffles me and is so complex! (But it must work.)

I remember taking the early morning Luton to Dublin service a year or two ago, as I disembarked and entered the terminal at Dublin they were making the final call for the Dublin to Luton flight.

For a moment, I thought how can they be making the final call when us people arriving from Luton were still leaving the aircraft. Instead however the return flight to Luton was with another aircraft from a different gate.

It baffled me why they would do this, when the Luton based aircraft which flew me to Dublin, would be ready for a flight 10-15 minutes later to go back to Luton. But was instead operating Dublin to Reus, when I checked the departure boards.

We probably have a far higher chance of seeing EL AL's 787's operating services from Luton, than we will ever have with the airports own residential airline that operates the 787!

I still live in hope that now Thomas Cook are starting to operate Long Haul services from neighbouring Stansted, Thomson might react and defend their market share in the North London area, and operate a few Long Haulers from the airport.

But it is probably a pipe dream!

Luton must have some of the lowest percentages of charter traffic, compared to other UK airports. With all the other major/regional airports maintaining a decent presence.

Gilesdavies Thomson are planning such long haulers but from Stansted not Luton sadly. My hope is that once Luton's expansion plans come to fruition they might be persuaded that the upgraded facilities merit long haul flights from Luton instead.

As you say, very probably a pipe dream.

Good news that El Al are getting Dreamliners which could comfortably use Luton, meaning wide bodied operations once the 767 goes could be assured which would be great news.

As for the Top 10 destinations, I'm surprised that with Dublin at number 4, Ryanair still only have 3 daily flights. I imagine they could easily go to 4 or even 5 on some days given how popular the route remains. Interesting that Glasgow ranks higher than Ediniburgh when on most days there are more flights to Edinburgh than to Glasgow. No doubt Copenhagen will usurp one of these top 10 routes when next years list is announced.

Wow LTN MAN.

92% low cost flights..Suppose LTN have to hope the bottom doesn't fall out of low cost then !

Although certainly no sign of that happening. The opposite if anything.

It is not all roses with Luton's handling agents. A passenger has complained that despite arriving at Luton 2 hours before her flight she and 57 other passengers missed their flights to 3 destinations departing at similar times when Menzies who handle for easyjet failed to check them in on time due to long queues.

Also according to a baggage handler Wizz are not at all happy with Swissport but with only two handling agents at Luton are stuck with them. Again according to this baggage handler Wizz have threatened to pull services out of Luton.

There are also many complaints about the time it is taking to get luggage to the belts from both companies.

I'm surprised Wizz don't self-handle at LTN.

Maybe if they were prepared to pay for a half decent service for handling, it might help.

redevelopment update

easyjet's former HQ continues to be hollowed out before the outer walls are removed. I would expect it to be gone within the next two weeks. The wooden former spectators building which was incorporated into the easyjet HQ is so far untouched

The tree stumps by the mid term car park have now need removed. This area will become the exit from the tunnel for the new duel carriageway.

The temporary arrivals hall is now getting a new floor to replace the vast number of floor coverings that area had when it was opened.

The bus station has been marked up with different coloured spray paint to show existing services and future work by surveyors.

The roundabout in the CTA continues to have services removed.

The terminal is getting somewhat noisier as work continues for the planned move of security to the ground floor later this month.

One of the pedestrian entrances to the short term car park has been fenced off.

Wizz Air

Wizz Air will be paying rock bottom prices to their handling agent. In the time I spent working on their contract we reduced their handling costs by almost 40% within an 18month period. Clearly not sustainable and my company at the time were not going to be bullied. It was a relief to some when they had gone but I for one did miss the madness.

In all fairness Wizzair are a major player for LTN and any such threats should be taken seriously, although I highly doubt they will go anywhere, they will negotiate a cheaper deal and stay put.

Take the baggage handlers comments with a pinch of salt (The chap I know claimed Emirates were thinking of LTN with a B77W).....unless he is the son of Jozsef Varadi I highly doubt he knows the ins & outs of what Wizzair are thinking!!

I did take with a pinch of salt his comments particularly when he mentioned the other airport for some of Wizz's services being potentially Southend but that is the rumour that is being spread by some at Swissport.
