The reason a lot of aircraft are on the Irish register is to do with the leasing company from Ireland
More specifically it is for ease of re-possession in the event of lease payment default.

SWBKCB, a number of the EU based full service airlines flying long haul have hired crew members from countries they fly to. This type of crew is based in their home country and they are usually paid according to local conditions. The world is not only black and white - there are a lot greys, and even other colours.

Skipness One Echo, you're welcome - but try to remember the presentation was the state at the end of 2012 and a lot of water has flown under the bridge since that time.

I trust we agree regulatory oversight ought not to be a "grey area"? There's a clear difference between hiring some local cabin crew as they speak a language and know the culture, and hiring one's flight deck crew and basing them out in Asia as it's a Hell of a lot cheaper. I would have no concern if they had long haul on the same AOC as say the Spanish bases, EU based. My concern is that in order to take this revolutionary idea to market, and kudos for doing so, you're pushing the boundaries of what I consider to be sensible.

Anyhoo enough from me, I am looking forward to seeing how this pans out. I would like to see it succeed, create jobs locally and lower fares. I am keen to see how far they push driving costs down far enough, because 787s are comparable to Thomson's on a cost basis but the fares will be way lower, the costs of airports at both ends are comparable. The only way to slash costs even more is to stiff it to the front line staff, in an environment where everyone has handling agents on the bare minima, it's cabin and flight deck crew whose ts & cs continue to head South. Still worth it to save a wee bit more money, and the public, God love us, will agree.

As was mentioned, start-up fares are start-up fares. I recall when VS got the JNB route and there was the usual fan fare of lower prices.

Not for long!!! I've been travelling this route for nearly 48 years and over the 16 years that I used VS (and others) on this route, their prices have always been roughly aligned. There are - of course - variations but when you look at the peak times and the details?

It's called business and NAS are very good at it!

I can well understand the "its to good to be true comment" but thus far it appears a success story, they have grown a very profitable company on their own turf in Scandinavia, which in order to compete with SAS on service had to be a lot better than standard Loco airline offering, they out source much of the back office stuff around Europe.

They have placed very large orders with both Boeing and airbus and have around 225 aircraft on order, they are already No 3 in Europe

The various airline quality guides rate them highly and they came out top in this years skytrax awards voted best LoCo in Europe, they started the first UK base in LGW in March and in the space of 6 months they have become the 3rd largest operator at LGW behind Easyjet & BA

People who have flown with them tend to do so again.

No 3 in terms of passengers carried by a LoCo carrier

1 Ryanair
2 Easyjet
3 Norwegian
4 Vueling

Current fleet is 80 aircraft and should be 85 by year end. (82 738 & 3 787)

DY

With the release of the main LGW programme for Summer 14 , has FUE been dropped or is it still to be added ? All canaries on sale except FUE ?

DY updated website today with GOT and TRF now on sale

Quick look through the Sat and Sun programme seems to still have routes to be announced as gaps in the flying programme , TLV could be one of them ?

But did hear that EFL , KGS and MAH still to be announced as well

God you need to be very flexible to make it worth while flying with DY. Just 2 dates available for there loco fare of 149 to JFK form LGW. Outside these dates the difference between other carriers is nothing. For a loco, it takes flexibility to a new level.

Press release from Norwegian today:

Boeing 737-8

Don't assume its just Easyjet market share NAS are after at LGW. Both BA & Monarch are very much on the radar, BA economy passengers are low hanging fruit, I have flown with both from LGW & NAS beat them hands down in terms of on time dispatch, the flights are quicker (than CL) and the standard economy offering on BA is nothing special plus NAS have WiFi.

Monarch are also losing market share to DY at LGW, 90% of the growth at LGW was delivered by DY this past period.

Going daily to TFS is a statement of intent, whilst BA won't lose to much sleep over DY at LGW ZB will be watching very closely

What's the latest on the pilot strike? Can't really seem to find much on it! Very pivotal point in NAS for pilot employment. I seen something that the newly employed pilots in Finland under a local company have offered their support, which is an encouraging sign as a whole.

I read that it goes to arbitration with the Norwegian version of ACAS on Friday for 3 days of mediation, if no agreement then strike from next Monday the 4th of November, but most seem to think a strike is unlikely.

Seems odd you are focussing on Monarch and you haven't mentioned Thomson or Thomas Cook? Am I missing something? Monarch scheduled ZB vs MON charter are two sides of the same coin really, the market is not that different.

Not really focusing on Monarch as such, more schedule traffic than charter, if someone books an IT trip the choice of airline is often secondary where as booking direct point to point the choice of airline is yours.

Skiing holiday are a case in point, you find your resort, your choice of Chalet with Inghams, Neilson VIP and so on then your local airport, its only then you find out who your flying with, i've flown with Flybe, bmi, bmibaby, Titan, BA & Jet2 but didn't know who with until i'd already made my mind up on the trip.

Some of the loads out LGW for DY are very impressive, so the business is coming from somewhere?
