It`s a Local Liverpool paper that has posted the article but the way it was put it read
as Liverpool had the service

It's the Liverpool Echo. Any hope of a decent level of journalism (or even English half the time) died years ago when it became part of the Trinity Mirror Group. It's quite clear though on looking at the article that it relates to a group of organisations in Liverpool welcoming the benefits of a new service from Manchester...as such I repeat that it is on the wrong thread...

Why's it strange? RAK is becoming very popular.

Popular with who? I don't know where you get your facts but Morocco has been badly hit tourism wise by Islamic terrorism, even though none has actually struck the country itself.

It's a very fashionable destination, the recent slump will be relatively short lived and with many Ryanair services already serving RAK, I'm sure they are confident of its success. Security wise, despite any traveller concerns, Morocco is relatively safe on the security risk matrix. As safe as anywhere can be in today's climate.

Not at all, the recent slump with be succeeded by another slump and another one, people just don't feel safe in a Muslim country while so many events are happening in the Islamic religion. Also, Marrakesh is not very safe at all, even before the vast Islamic radicalization, suppose anything can be made up to support an agenda.

Memory is short-lived:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Marrakesh_bombing

17 people were killed and 25 injured in 2011 at the Argana cafe in Jemaa el-Fnaa square, Marrakesh.

Check the world security matrix/map and that will show that Morocco is a lower risk than some other countries. This matrix is worked out taking into account security measures and the strength of its national military. What I will grant you is the notion of where is safe these days? Terrorism is alive and well on our doorstep.

I thought you guys might actually be happy at having something a little more exotic than what you are normally used to.

Couldn't agree more easyflyer83. UK - Morocco passenger numbers grew 3% in April 2016 compared with the year before (sadly the CAA still have no more up to date stats on their website). MAN - RAK grew 11% for the same period. Neither strike me as signs of a market in decline or gripped by fear of terrorism.

Perceived lack of capacity on other routes (such as TFS) should be not be a cause to moan when routes come along to new destinations - albeit Ryanair is actually returning to the LPL - RAK route.

RAK also have a nice big new terminal opening towards the end of the year which they will be keen to fill. No doubt Mr. O'Leary got a good price

Good to see RYR still expanding at LPL. Possibly the congestion in T3 over at MAN is helping this growth.
I'm a little out of touch with things at Liverpool, has easyjet expanded in any way recently - or has it all been at MAN?

LPL has had no expansion from EZY to date, all increases have been at MAN. Their existing routes however have been full or nearly full, any increases have come with the change from A319 to A320 on some routes.
