Bit late on reporting the Nov / Dec passenger figures for those that are interested

November saw 27 , 903 use the airport with the continuation of the Ryanair flights throughout the winter , of particular note was the new service to Krakow which saw 2827 passengers , about 177 loads which is really good for a new route
Barbados saw 2 Thomson 787 inbound flights average about 238 pax

December saw 31 , 857 use the airport

All the 5 Lapland flights went out full and all are returning this winter coming
Krakow again saw great figures of 3093 passengers averaging about 172 per flight which is obviously proving popular as is the extra Thomson flight to Lanzarote

Easy Jet started earlier this year and benefitted in 4109 passengers use the service and they have now increased the Geneva route to Daily for a month from March 23 finishing mid April now
This is the first time in many years they have increased the service with 2 flights on a Sat / Sun

Other wise no sign at all of any increase or new routes from Ryanair or in fact any cruise charters this year after last years big programme throughout the summer nothing at all !!

Positive news

Hope this positive news gets some momentum going for additional services in time.

Ryanair has publicly said that they have signed a growth deal with MAG, BOH must be part of that but nothing has been announced yet.

easyJet are rumoured to be looking at relieving two aircraft from LGW S17 programme as they switch terminals. Whether this latest GVA move is an early indication of any intent to boost BOH flights remains to be seen. It would certainly be timely given the lack of expansion from anyone else at either BOH or SOU in terms of Spanish Sun routes. The rest of the UK has really suffered from over-expansion into Spain - apart from BOH so yield potential could be good.

The brs fleet size is to be increased by 1 frame in s17, taking based frames up to 15. there is enough work for 15 brs base with a few gaps. If its one of those it wonders where easy will base the other frame.

Its plausible for reasons mentioned in my post #1200 - but nothings done til its done!

The driver for sure is the lure of overnight parking stands and peak hour summer slots.

Seeing May is only three months away I can't see Easyjet leaving it so late to put these flights for sale from BOH, a rumour that's all it is.

Canberra, I agree, May 18 would be more likely.

Bournemouth grew by 11.6% in Jan'17 versus Jan'16 to 33,000 passengers according to a press release from MAG. This is pretty good news considering recent issues. Strong performance on Canaries routes.

From CH-Aviation:

PowdAir (Sion) is a virtual carrier looking to offer direct flights from various UK, Dutch, and Belgian airports to Sion located in the heart of Switzerland’s most popular winter sports region, the Valais.

The start-up said in a statement that effective December 17 onwards, it will offer flights from Sion to each of London Southend, Bournemouth, Southampton, Bristol Int'l, Manchester Int'l and Edinburgh in the UK as well as Brussels in Belgium, and Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Operations are on-board two Fokker 100s chartered from Croatia's Trade Air (C3, Zagreb).

Transfers from Sion to the ski resorts of Verbier, Zermatt, Crans-Montana, Zinal-Grimentz, Leukerbad and Anzère will be available.

Don't think we will be seeing this lot at Bournemouth

PowdAir replied to my message :

Hello Mark , sorry but Bournemouth will not feature in our planning as we will be flying out of Southampton and the infrastructure for Bournemouth is terrible ...
No free bus direct from train station to airport , overpriced car parking and generally a very poor terminal service

I guess Easy Jet see it a bit differently !

I'm sure easyJet would use Southampton rather that Bournemouth if the runway was wider. Unfortunately it would place restrictions on operating there so Bournemouth is the next best thing. Don't be surprised if you don't see many orange planes around Hurn in the future though...

I have to say it did seem weird for them to serve BRS, BOH and SOU given the rest of the planned destinations are quite spread out. Those are some quite damming remarks for someone to share with an outsider asking a question I have to say. Any substance to your suggestion planedrive, they seem to be quite happy with their GVA route this year!?

Ryanair have loaded there winter programme from Bournemouth and the based aircraft is again staying throughout the winter this time it will be operating all the routes except 1 Faro service

Las Palmas has been dropped for the winter though , not really surprised as the loads haven't been that great especially with Thomson operating to the canaries as well

Ryanair schedule at present for 2017/18

Sat. BOH ALC BOH FAO BOH
Sun. BOH MLA BOH AGP BOH
Mon. BOH KRK BOH
Tue. BOH ALC BOH

I've not been on for a while and was just checking up on the usual SOU v BOH arguments.
I find that PowdAir's response quite unprofessional unless you are paraphrasing. Granted the bus routes are poor, but I find it hard to believe that the car parking is overpriced compared to SOU. I also find it hard to believe that the terminal service is very poor.

My evidence to dispute PowdAir is to quickly compare a random fortnight in April, cheapest BOH price is £66 whereas SOU was £99.

Their loss.

no newmarket holidays flights mentioned - they use titan and small planet often

hays travel told me a few weeks ago they had not announced anything as last years were not that successful but that was their own fault not advertising to the locals well enough nor local press
i think the Cunard flights did OK

no Thomson or P&O cruises out of BOH long haul?
